AI9 – Auditions: Orlando, FL
The fourth episode of American Idol 9 was the Orlando, FL Auditions. Orlando is home of Disney and where dreams come true. The special guest for this audition was Kristin Chenoweth, a Broadway singer and actress who is now a star of hit show, Glee. So let’s start with the auditions, in which is was better than Chicago, but just as short, since it was an hour long program.
Theo Glinton – This guy was the first to audition, and he’s seen wearing a horrifying and embarrassing cape with glitter all over his face. When Simon asks him where he sees himself in ten years, this guy begins talking about opening up salons, which has nothing to do with a music career. When he started screaming, he sang very loud and was actually screaming a whole lot. Kara says he was over the top and Randy tells him to lose the cape. He was rejected by the judges.
Seth Rollins – This guy is a father who’s oldest son is diagnosed with Autism. When he sang a Frank Sinatra song, it to me sounded very R&B like. The judges, or one of the judges, I forgot who say he was just a bit bland. Simon and Kristin say he picked a good, original song. With four votes to yes, he goes to Hollywood.
Jermaine Purifoy – This guy auditioned for Season seven, and when he sang, he sang good, having a nice voice. Kristin says he was pure and Rnady says he was the best audition so far. He gets put through to Hollywood with four votes to yes.
Shelby Dressel – She’s a waitress who just graduated high school. She started singing very good, and when she choked, she ended up cursing doing so. The judges say she needs to work on being nervous and all four of the judges put her through to Hollywood anyways.
As of day one, there were eighteen successful hopefuls who will be going to Hollywood. For day two of the auditions, Kristin Chenoweth has left due to her busy schedule in New York.
Jay Stone – This guy was a major disappointment and irritation when she goes into the room, and doesn’t sing, he makes beats with his mouth covered by his hands with no real English words whatsoever. I think Kara was dumb for saying yes to this guy, and Randy was just as dumb being his second vote through to Hollywood. Only Simon realized this is a singing competition, not a mouth-covered-by-hands beat competition, or whatever it’s really called.
Cornelius Edwards – A guy who starts singing, and singing not so good, I may add, began acting like a joke when he does a split. His pants end up getting ripped. It appears the judges were taking entertainment into consideration rather than singing once again, since he gets three votes to Hollywood. So, that makes two entertainers who aren’t really potential artists going to Hollywood this episode.
Bernadette & Amanda Desimond – Sisters who have a salon in their house, just like the other girl from Chicago. They both take turns singing, and I felt that on girl, I believe Bernadette sang better than her sister Amanda. Simon says yes to Bernadette and no to Amanda, but Kara and Randy already said yes to both of them, so they’re both going to Hollywood.
Jarrod Norrell – To me, this guys sang Amazing grace like a swarm of angry and busy bees. Kara says he sounds like a lawn mower and asks Jarrod if he really thinks he can really sing. He refused to leave the audition room, and began singing Amazing Grace again. The security intervened and carried this guy out of the whole area.
Matt Lawrence – This guy is a guy who at the age of fifteen robbed a bank with a Bebe gun. This guy says that American Idol could be his way of redemption. He sing as song called Trouble (ironic?). To me he sounded okay, basically because Country is how we sounded and that’s not where my taste in music goes. However, Simon says he was brilliant, sounding like he wrote the song himself and says he was authentic. He makes it through to Hollywood with four votes yes.
A total of 31 auditioners made it through to Hollywood. Out of four audition episodes right now, there’s been an even total of 100 successful hopefuls making it through to Hollywood.
I thought the auditions were okay, with more than what we saw from Chicago, I just don’t think there’s a stand out. Two of the successful hopefuls deferentially did not deserve to go to Hollywood. My favorite this episode was either Bernadette Desimond, Jermaine Purifoy, or Seth Rollins equally, but I still feel I’m keeping the same top five best auditioners. Here is a LLNMD List of Chicago & Orlando auditioners.
