AI9 Auditions: Chicago, IL

American Idol’s third pit stop home of the Windy City, deep dish pizza and Barack Obama, and Abraham Lincoln. The episode starts off with rejects cursing at the cameras and some heavy-set, African-African woman mistaking American IdolĀ  for America’s Next Top Model. The next guest judge is Canadian country artist Shania Twain, famous for her song Forever and for Always.

Katelyn Epperly- A 19 year old girl with Family Problems, as her dad left her mother. When she started singing, she was very good. Shania says she sounds unique, not like Duffy, the singer she sang from. She got four yes’s, and is through to Hollywood.

Amy Lang – A girl who is in broadway and has a huge, but awkward crush on Ryan Seacrest. When her audition began, she falls to the ground and when she gets back up, she starts singing and pops her boobs out. Shania and Kara alled it “boob-boxing”. However, Simon says she wasn’t serious, and all the judges say no.

Charity Vance – A girl who is sixteen who’s parents own a salon in their Arkansas home. Randy says she has a small but interesting voice. Simon says she was very good, and with four yes’s, she was through to Hollywood.

Angela Martin – A former top 50 contestant of AI who held AI over off over a traffic warrant. One judge says she picked a very good song, and Kara says she’s good at listening to other people’s criticism. With four yes’s, she makes it back to Hollywood.

Curley Newburn – A guy who sand very slow and pitchy. The judges were chuckling the whole time, saying he’s got a very high voice. He was rejected.

Brian Krause – A guy from Pittsburgh who got fired from something involving the military. Simon thought he was a joke, when he sang, as he was top-toeing. To me, he was the worst, and that’s sad to say, since he’s from Pittsburgh, the town I’m moving to.

Herald Davis – To me, this guy sounded meh. However, the judges say he was clearly not right for the show. After being rejected, he began crying an sobbing, as a plea to get redemption. It didn’t work, he was and remained rejected.

John Park – He is an Asian-American guy who sang very excellent and had a good-sounding deep, but flowing voice. Shania says he had a very nice tone, and lips, and was surprised by him. John was given four yes’s, and was actually the first audition-er on Day 2 to make it to Hollywood.

Paige - An asthma attack victim who, to me, sang very strong and flowing with her voice. Randy says she has pitch problems. Kara and Shania say they’re unsure about her chances among the others, but they vote yes to her anyways, as Simon says no to her. It was up to Randy who ends up saying yes, and she goes to Hollywood.

A total of thirteen auditions from American Idol in Chicago were successful. That is 18 less than in the first city, Boston. Overall, I feel that Chicago was very weak. Only one guy stands out t0 me, and that is John Park. Angels would be second best to me, and Katelyn Epperly, Charity Vance, and Paige are about equally neutral. The other eight didn’t get introduced to us. My thinking is that the ones who got introduced to us are the ones who make it further in the running.

My Top 5 auditioners of three episodes:

5. Keia Johnson (Atlanta)

4. Maddy Curtis (Boston)

3. Leah Laurenti (Boston)

2. John Park (Chicago)

1. Jermaine Sellers (Atlanta)
