American Idol 9 Auditions: Boston, MA
American Idol premiered last night, and while I watching the show, I jogged down some notes to help me make a blog, instead of blogging/watching AI at the same time. So, the first stop for the Auditions was Boston, Massachusetts, home of Yankee Haters and the Revolutionary War, in which, yes, the judges ended up talking about the Revolutionary War in the middle of the show. They introduced the first special guest judge, Victoria Beckham, aka Posh from the Spice Girls. In Boston, it was raining, so all of the people in line at the auditions were carrying umbrellas, and in the background, the song Boston by Augustana was playing.Below is a list of a name and a personal description of the auditioner, my critique, the judges’ critique, and whether or not they werethrough or rejected in the audition. I tried to search for videos of these guys, mainly the people who’s first and last name I caught.
Janet McNamara- She was the first audition of Boston, who is an addict of the Idol video game she claims she mastered, in which she’s auditioning for the show because she believes since she mastered the video game, she can master a real American Idol audition. When she got into the room, and when she sang, she sand Pocketful of Sunshine by Natasha Beddingfield, the judges didn’t like her real audition. Janet was rejected, hoping she learns a valuable lesson, video games are not meant to be mocked into a real-life situation. It was Game Over for Janet, but hey, at least she isn’t copying any Rated Mature games. Her audition is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtfN1VcKmBA&feature=related
Maddy Curtis- Maddy is the 8th or 9th of 12 kids. Her younger biological brother has down syndrome, and her parents ended up adopting two or three more kids with down syndrome, as they felt as a family it was their need to rach out. Maddy sings Halleleujah by an artist I don’t remember. I personally thought she looks mature and acts mature for a sixteen year old. She even sang more mature than a sixteen year old. Kara says she sounded soulful and authentic. Simon kind of agrees with me on Maddy’s maturity level, saying she’s not as anoying as most sixteen year old who audition. Her audition is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTvLYdNwo3I
Pat Ford- This guy is a teen from Derry New Hampshire who obsesses over the word “Holla”. He sang Womanizer by Brittany Spears, the way wrong song for a seventeen year old guy to be singing. I thought he was too jumpy/energitic, and I he’s probably gay. Pat ends up calling Simon Sassy, and as he was rejected, he got to hug Kara. I hope he’s homeschooled, or hope jocks don’t watch AI, because not only did he embarrass New Hampshire, my ditrth state, he embarrassed himself. Here’s his audition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZJLiGlM4ac
Amadeo- This guy is an Italian guy who’s a family guy. When he sang, I don’t remember the song, he was Simon’s favorite of the day so far and Posh says he was energetic. Kara and Randy feel Amadeo is real, like a brother. To me, he sang very deep, but decent. He was I believe the first male to be given a ticket to Hollywood of the auditions. Here is his audition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb9wlxggvE0&feature=related
Derec Ervin- He’s a spiritual guy who likes to listen to music when depressed. I personallt thought he was borderline hippy until he began comparing himself to Chris Brown, which gave me an awkward feeling because this guy and Chris Brown are completely different in like every way. When he began singing, I thought he sounded like something totally all wrong. My sister, who watched the show with me, says he counds like a duck. Simon says he’s No Chris Brown, and obviously doesn’t sound like the Eagles (band), but maybe an eagle (bird). Here’s his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnFUk4z2UH0&feature=related
Mere Doyle- This girl is an anime geek obsessed with Japanese culture. I thought she sang very loud, but had some energy to her. When Simon says she was terrible, she began defending herself. She got rejected and sulks about her 14 years of singing training and experience are crashed by the judges. She was the second nerd type person, maybe third if Pat counts, to be rejected. Here’s her video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYeuNmUikhM&feature=related
Next, we see just a few seconds of two guys, Luke Shaffer and Benjamin Wright singing and both of those guys wrre success in their audition, making it through to Hollywood. Before the next segmented audition, we were given a flashback of Kara’s feud with Bikini Girl of last year’s audtitions.
Andrew Fenlon- This is the guy who was very rudely impatient, and whiny about the fact the audition process was taking him three hours to get himself through. He’s probably the only rejected auditioner to throw a fit, and probably the only auditioner to throw a fit before he’s vene in the room, before gettingĀ rejected. Andrew was extremely rude to the judges, and ignorantly answered Simon’s questions. He was deferentially a dude who’s probably angry at the world, and his big glasses were irritating and intimidating to me. When he sang, he. sang. like. this. A. robot. Kara asks Andrew is he’s angry, and Kara gives Andrew a piece of her mind, stating she doesn’t like him after he’s a complete jerk over waiting three hours for his break when Kara explains people wait years to get their break. Andrew and Kara continued to get into their fighting until this rejeced ausitioner was finally out of our site. Whatc his video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1Q1QyzYu64&feature=related
Ashley Rodrigez- She’s a college student. In her audition, she sang an Alicia Keys song. Kara liked her. Simon thinks she has it. All four of them do say yes to her. I liked her too, she sounded like a true R&B singer, similar to Alicia Keys. Here’s her video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cl1_zHm2hg
Tyler Grady-This guy is a band drummer who formerly fell out of a tree and has metal plates in his arms he broke. Kara adroes him, calling him fantastic, same for Posh. Simon says he’s an auditioner he’ll remember. To me, he seems like a young rocker guy who teenage girls will have crushes on, but he was decent. He’s also going through to Hollywood. Here’s his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQUdNSHs95Y
Lisa-Next is a girl named Lisa who’s a waitress. She has a huge passion for singing and music, but has never recieved training. Lisa claims she’s better than half the people on the show. She sang Vision of Love by Mariah Carey. She was rejected, as the judges say she was no good. I won’t be able to find a video of her, since I don’t remember her last name anddidn’t see her listed on related videos either.
Mike Davis-This guy works on a boat. To me, he sang very excellent. However, to my surrpise Randy says no, but Simon say yes. So, it was up to the lady judges, Posh and Kara to decide. We end up seeing Ryan talking to Mike’s family until Mike comes out, with a golden ticket, confirming his spot in Hollywood. Here is his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XxW9RM2xb8
Katie Stevens-She is a 16-year-old girl who’s Portugese and very close to her grandmother, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Katie also takes care of her grandmother as well. She san gvery excellent, and sang just as good as Maddy. The judges loved her too, and she was through to Hollywood. Here is her video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDzA0tmUESI
Joshua Blaylock-He started singing and sang okay to me. Posh says he was playing it very safe, which is a killer once you’re pass auditions. Simon says no to him, sayign he sounds lke a fourteen year old. Hoever, when Kara and Posh say yes, sayign he can change, Simon changes his mind to yes, and Randy says yes, and he’s put through to Hollywood. Here he is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eW5BuFzeZuY
Justin Williams-A Cancer survivor diagnosed while on a mission in Spain. He, to me, sang very good and inspirational to me. All of the judges put him through to Hollywood. The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDeEvFKT644
Norberto-A rocker with Cyndi Lauper style hair, it seemed to me. His singing was very screechy and pitchy. Also, he got extremely nervous. Smon says he looks like a three year old dressed like Latoya Jackson. He was rejected. I do not remember this guy’s last name, so I have no video.
Bosa Mora-A guy with Nigerian Parents. He actually sounded very decent. Simon says he was good, but boring. Posh and Kara disagreed with Simon. However, Randy, Posh, and Kara put him through to Hollywood anyways. Here is his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAyDp4JL88Y
Leah Laurenti-She was the last audition shows, who grew up in a strict home. She claims she can be a singer, but has put it off. She sang very good, with lots of emotion. She reminds me of an Americnan version of Leona Lewis. Randy says she was one of the best, and with four yeses, she was sent to Hollywood. Despite she was one of the best, I couldn’t find her video, since I’m probably spelling her last name worng, but I’m still sure she has a video, however.
A total of 31 Boston auditions were successful in this audition city. Overall, the people of Boston who got rejected we’re thorwing outrageous bursts of foul language, bitterness, and immature sore loss. I believe the only bitter ones, but not over-the-top extreme were Mere Doyle and Andrew Fenlon. Tonight, the judges are headed to Atlanta, so tommorow, expect to see more auditioners.
