Survivor – Jalapao Wins Immunity, Jerry Sounds off
Posted in Dan's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 18 USA on February 27th, 2009 by DanThis survivor episode started with Candace’s closest ally Erinn left in the dust as an outcast. Coach talks trash about Erinn, saying Erinn “insulted” everyone that night. Then, it’s day seven, and Jerry is growing tired of camp life, feels weak, and claims to be sick. Meanwhile, at the Jalapao tribe, things seems more high-morale as everyone is fishing. The Jalapao tribe mates talk about hoping that they continue to win.
In the first reward challenge, teams had to select a person to be the leader (No, Coach didn’t dictate this) and lead their blindfolded tribe mates to collect a bucket and fill It with water, then fill it in another bucket, and do the same thing again but with Corn. Debra and Joe were the leaders. Joe and the Jalapao tribe mates worked together well enough to embarrassingly put Timbira into their position. The Jalapao tribe mates won furniture, tarp, and blankets, etc. Taj and Brendan were once again exiled.
Back at Timbira, Coach calls Tyson his new “assistant coach”, and those two have probably been guaranteed a bond for a while. We hear more about Jerry struggling to deal with being around camp. Meanwhile, back at Jalapao, the tribe continues to have more high morale as their like their winning streak. Meanwhile, Back at Exile Island, Taj and Brendan talk about getting a four person alliance moving along that nobody will know. They are sure about their next clue.
In the immunity challenge, teams have to roll over boxes and then stack them to spell their tribe name. Timbira actually took the lead, and almost had a hope in winning. However, Erinn emerged as the one controlling the challenge, and the tribe failed to listen to her orders, letting Jalapao catch up. Jalapao ended up wining immunity.
Back at Timbira, Jerry is still not feeling all too well again. Meanwhile, everyone is in the water talking about voting for Jerry. However, Coach is offended by Erinn grinning and he get’s so offended that he just has to get his way and vote for her. We do know that Brendon ends up finding the idol behind the tree mail box. The scene leaves us with Tyson talking about liking to see blindsides. So, at tribal council, there’s a little debate of whether Brendan is a better leader than Coach. However, it was a 6-1 vote that got Jerry booted. Thirteen people are left. Who will go next?
Personally, Coach needs to change to dictator, because just because someone liked Candace or grins that they’re safe, it doesn’t necessarily get offensive. Coach is playing the game way too hard and it’s going to bite him hardcore. His stupid sheep, Tyson, Sierra, and Debra are also not that good. Debra and Sierra are most obviously weaker than Erinn. Erin, I really like now, and would love to see her team up with Brendan and his idol and use it to blindside Coach. I think the viewers are waiting for Coach to get blindsided too. Personally, I’m rooting for Jalapao, and I hope they continue to kick but in these challenges. Sandy seems to have found herself in this episode, so far. However, I’m worried Taj is just going to blow things for herself. Who is Sydney? Overall, this was an OK episode, as it was nothing special. Jerry was probably a good boot because he wasn’t much use to the game. This season looks like could have potential if something interesting happens. J.T. looks like he’s in a good position, but since we haven’t seen much of that tribe in strategic action since day 3, I don’t know for sure. I still think Taj should watch it.
TOP FIVE SURVIVORS:
1. J.T. (3)
2. Erinn (2)
3. Brendan (1)
4. Spencer (3)
* I only have a main four, nobody else is winning me over as potential favourites

Amanda & Kris – Dating: This to me sounds like just another typical young couple TAR always has. I really don’t see anything special about them now, but I hope they surprise me. I’m about half way sure they’ll be one of the bickering couples of this season.
Brad & Victoria – Married: Aww, I kind of hope they’ll last and be the next example of Ken/Tina. I’ve always wondered if a middle aged couple would actually win TAR, but we’ve got some as far as second, let’s see a change!
Cara & Jaime – Former NFL Cheerleaders: I hope they’re not like the last cheerleader team we got (Jaime/Kelly, TAR10). Personally, I believe they’ll be a mid season boot. They seem like the flirty type, and will probably use charm as their key to success in TAR.
Christie & Jodi – Flight Attendants: Ehh, I kind of don’t think they’ll last. Being flight attendants they may know a few tricks to getting faster flights, though. Honestly, I could see them following teams, and if they go far, they’ll be lucky, but not as lucky as Dan/Andrew of last season.
Jennifer & Preston – Dating: Like I said, I really think I’d like them. They do seem like just another young dating couple TAR has, and I Hope they stand out. I could see them going far, and racing a very solid race.
LaKisha & Jennifer – Sisters: I really do like this team, and I hope their athletic ability makes them competitive and solid racers. I could see them getting a little feisty with each other, but it’ll be entertaining to watch.
Linda & Steve – Married: Meh, I kind of don’t feel good vibes with them. I think they’ll be nice people and all, but I kind of think they’ll be out in the dark against more competitive teams. Who knows, maybe they’ll be like David/Mary of TAR10, just not too much like them, for sure.
Margie & Luke – Mother/Son: TAR has never had a death contestant before, however, not to be rude, but how many foreigners know American sign language? Margie better learn to be a good communicator to these foreigners. However, they do look like they have a very special relationship, and they’ll win over the viewers’ hearts.
Mark & Michael – Brothers/Stuntmen: I can really see these guys have the entertaining comical team of the season. Being stuntmen, it’ll be interesting what detour choices and crazy stuff they opt for. I can see them being a top team for the final three, and wouldn’t be surprised if they won.
Mel & Mike – Father/Son: I am going to make them my prediction for the team who bites the dust tonight. I really feel they don’t have the competitiveness and strength for a successful run on the race. I don’t even think they’ll surprise me one bit. I would like them too, but meh, I’m not counting on it.
Tammy & Victor – Siblings/Lawyers: I actually see them as the sibling version of Becky/Yul from Survivor. They just seem like they’ve got the brains for this race, and yes, maybe it’s due to their Harvard Law degrees. I also see them not paying mind to how other teams do, and just worry about themselves. That’s what I’d do.
The Recap of Episode One
Benjamin Wade – He’s the first survivor I’ve ever seen who wants the top four to be the four strongest. I hope he’s not sexist and recognizes women’s strength. If this strategy worked, then this season will be predictable at first, then really completive at the end.
Brendan Synnott – A multi-millionaire for Survivor is something I don’t mind. However, I personally believe he’ll pull a Gary on us and keep it as a secret. By the merge, he may tell a close ally or two, as long as he’s careful.
Candace Smith – Candace, I have high hopes for, and is a potential favorite of mine. Why? I don’t know. I could see her as being one of the stronger females and believe she’s smart.
Carolina Eastwood – Aw, I do not discriminate on people who fit a “mactor” stereotype, but she looks like she’ll be an early boot. To me, she reminds me of Cecelia/Paloma. I can see myself liking her, and wish her all the best, though.
Debra Beebee – I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t survive. She seems like the type that could be nothing special to the show. If I remember correctly, she actually told people she went to rehab instead of telling them about being on Survivor? Funny, but I’d never do that.
Erinn Lobdell – She looks boring for some reason, I don’t know why. Not much else I have to say.
Jerry Sims – I could see him as a star of this season. He seems strong, and I think him being a laid-back character would work for him.
Joe Dowdel – I could see him winning, without flying under the radar, and being a decent player, but he kind of reminds me of BB8 Zach.
James “JT” Thomas – I could see him being a remember able character, simply because reading about him. However, he seems arrogant, and I could see that as a weakness?
Sandy Burgin – She seems like she won’t be able to fit in with the younger Survivors at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if she became the next Gillian, or Patricia.
Sierra Reed – I doubt she knows one a fact about Survival, and probably has a lot to learn, in such a short mater of time. That’s her weakness, and deferentially the mactor I won’t see in the merge. She actually reminds me of Morgan.
Spencer Duhn – Like I said, I want him to go far, simply he’s probably representing people 18-20. He’s probably the biggest fan out of the bunch, and that’s always a plus. For his age, he actually seems mature and independent.
Stephan Fishbach – Honestly, I forgot he was even in the cast,, so I really don’t know what to say. I believe he’ll fly under the radar, but coming from Yale, he may just get out from under the radar.
Sydney Wheeler – I can personally see her as an independent person. She’ll probably be the type who watches her back, and will vow to trust no one.
Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George – Honestly, I can see her as a potential early boot. She just doesn’t seem she’ll watch her back. I can see her as the type to cause conflict. I really hope she proved me wrong and can stay.
Tyson Apostol – I really don’t know what to say, however, in his bio, saying people describe him as a jerk, kind of is not a good thing. In Survivor, edit can make him life of the party, so we’ll see.
