Expeditie Robinson 10 (2008) – Belgium/Netherlands

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 10th, 2009 by Art

Elimination 1
Sambang lost the immunity challenge:

Unfortunately there was no tribal council, but the team got one day to to decide which of them would leave. They decided to all write down a name on a piece of paper, but we never got to see who wrote down which name. But two players said in later episodes who they voted for: HiuKwan voted for Hicham and Prince voted for HiuKwan.

The results of the first voting (known because the pieces of paper were read on camera, but without revealing who voted for who):

Claudia = 1
Geert T = 0
Hicham = 1
HiuKwan = 2 (with two capitals ;) )
Marleen = 3
Prince = 0
Sarah = 0
Wim = 1

Wim was probably the second vote for HiuKwan (I read an interview in which he said he really didn’t get along with her and wanted to vote for her every tribal council), but there is no official confirmation.

EDIT: These were the full results (supplied by HiuKwan):
Hicham voted for HiuKwan
Sarah voted for Marleen
Marleen voted for Wim
Geert T voted for Marleen
Wim voted for Marleen
Prince voted for HiuKwan
Claudia voted for Claudia
HiuKwan voted for Hicham
For some reason Claudia voted for herself. :o

Elimination 2
Uma lost the immunity challenge.

Everybody voted for Dirk, except Dirk (voted for Mano) and Geert D (voted for Hannie)

Elimination 3

Sambang lost the immunity challenge.

Unfortunately, once again, not the full votes are known. We do know however that Claudia and Geert T voted for Hicham and that Hicham and HiuKwan voted for Claudia. If I had to guess, I’d say Sarah also voted for Hicham and Prince & Wim voted for Claudia (who was eliminated 4-3), but I am not 100% sure.

Elimination 4
Uma lost the immunity challenge.

Two groups were formed: Geert D, Kyra & Sharon made an alliance and voted for Hannie, while Hannie, Yin & Hans voted for Geert D. Hannie had to leave because of past votes against (the one vote Geert D casted in elimination 2).

Elimination 5
Sambang lost the immunity challenge.

Wim was voted out unanimously by Geert T/HiuKwan/Prince/Sarah, he himself voted for HiuKwan.

Elimination 6
Prince got eliminated in a 5-4 vote. All of former Uma (Geert D, Yin, Kyra, Sharon & Hans) voted for Prince (which caused loads of drama because Prince was – by far – the #1 favorite to win the show by the other candidates, the production and the viewers). All of former
Sambang (Prince, HiuKwan, Sarah & Geert T) voted for Geert D.

HiuKwan won individual immunity. Strangely enough, the host specifically said this was NOT the merge, however, there was an individual immunity challenge, both tribes lived together on one beach and they voted together. I’m not really sure why this wasn’t the merge, but the host specifically said a couple of times that it was not the merge? (maybe there will be a twist next episode).

Elimination 7
This time it was Geert D who had to leave. Yin/Hans joined former Sambang and voted their former tribe mate out:

Geert D = 5 (HiuKwan, Sarah, Geert T, Hans, Yin)
Geert T = 3 (Geert D, Sharon, Kyra)

Immunity was won by Yin and Hans found a hidden immunity idol, but chose not to use it yet.

There was a merge now, but I am not sure what the name of the merged tribe is as I missed the first half of the episode.

Eliminations 8, 9 & 10 are missing

Elimination 11
The results of the lastest episode:

HiuKwan = 2 (Yin, Hans)
Geert T = 2 (HiuKwan, Sharon)
Sharon = 1 (Geert T)
(Hans had immunity again)

At the previous tribal council (where Sarah got eliminated), HiuKwan let out all the dirt. This upset Yin & Hans, who then decided that HiuKwan should be the next one out. Both were gonna vote for her, while Geert T would vote for Sharon (as he made an agreement with his former team not to vote for any of them, so he couldn’t vote for HiuKwan, and he has an alliance with Yin & Hans).

The next part of the episode was about HiuKwan sobbing about this news, until she suddenly realized she had a chance: if she and Sharon join together, they can vote out Geert T. Because Geert T has three previous votes against and HiuKwan had none, Geert T had to leave. He took this news by staring in disbelieve for about ten minutes before he realized the game was over, which was quite hilarious.

Now it’s Yin & Hans vs. Sharon & HiuKwan for the next episode. Could be interesting.

Elimination 12 is missing

Elimination 13
The final three were Hans, HiuKwan & Yin. They competed in an endurance challenge and the winner would automatically qualify for the final two. Hans was the first to loose, an hour later by HiuKwan. So Yin was the first finalist.

The second challenge was between Hans & HiuKwan and was a survival-based challenge, a puzzle and how well you know your former tribe-mates challenge combined in one. It was an extremely close match and right before the winner was announced, the episode stopped.

The Final
So the episode of tonight continued where it stopped last week: the last part of the challenge between HiuKwan and Hans. It seemed like HiuKwan was going to win as she had a big advantage over Hans, but blew it all in the last minutes by panicking, so Hans could get past her and win the challenge. At that moment all people watching switched off their tv as the big favorite HiuKwan was eliminated and the two most hated participants made the final two: Yin & Hans.

Both took part in the final tribal council, where they had to answer questions about how they played the game. The tribal council got really ugly: the jury (consisting of Geert D, Kyra, Sarah, Geert T, Sharon & HiuKwan) was really upset these two made the final and made it clear they thought none of them deserved to win the game. But the hosts forced them to vote, so they did. The result was this:

Geert D: ???? (not sure, but most likely Yin)
Kyra: Hans
Sarah: Yin
Geert T: ???? (not sure, but most likely Hans)
Sharon: Yin
HiuKwan: Hans

So the result was 3-3. A tie.

Both Yin & Hans had won an extra vote. Yin had won a challenge with which she won a positive vote for her in the finals and Hans had his Hidden Immunity Idol, which he switched this for a positive vote in the finals as well. Had HiuKwan made the finals, there would have been an uneven number of votes (six jury members + extra vote either Yin/Hans had).

Later, in the reunion show it was announced that five of the six jury members (all except Geert T) made an agreement to force a tie. They didn’t want to decide who was the winner as they all disliked Yin and Hans so much. HiuKwan said that the producers should find a way to decide the winner, they didn’t want to have anything to do with it anymore.

So the producers did: they asked originally 100 former candidates to come to the tv-studios and vote for who they thought should win. For some reason, it was later announced that only 81 votes would be cast. I don’t have a full overview of the people who voted (unfortunately). I do know the following people were at the show: Derek (ER3), Björn (ER4), Ernestine, Frank (ER5), John, Marnix, Marleen, Douwe (ER6), Koen (ER8), Frans, Frits, Bruno & Vinnie (ER9). All the pre-merge eliminees from ER10 were there as well, but I don’t know if they voted.

Out of these 81 votes, 7 were declared invalid (probably because they voted for HiuKwan). So 74 votes were left, who went this way:

Hans: 16 votes
Yin: 58 votes

So Yin was the winner. Right after the announcement they cut the show of and showed a memorial for Ernst-Paul, the host who passed away. As if they did not want to give Yin & Hans more attention. :D Yin probably won because she was a bit more down to earth and said luck was a big factor in her making the final two. I never thought she would win, as she also said that she thought Hans would make a better winner than herself. Hans probably lost because he was extremely arrogant in the final and didn’t want to apologize for what he did.

Expeditie Robinson 9 (2007) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 1

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 8th, 2009 by Art

This was a very strange edition with 100 participants.

Episode 1
Kenny was the first person to arrive at the beach, blindfolded. He spend a few hours on the beach until the other 99 participants arrived (needless to say, it was a huge shock to him). Kenny was the first leader, but he quickly made four other people the leader: Mathilde was to take care of the fishing, Sven took care of finding food, Walther lead building the camp and Bruno became the head-cook.

Episode 2
Loads of drama surrounding the couple Tim S & Iraida (who was a little princess, who came to the island totally unprepared and thinking she would get a bed and loads of food). There was a famous spit-incident when Lotus insulted Iraida and Tim S spit in Lotus’ face. :P 25 people quit after this episode, one of which being Iraida (which greatly upset Tim S, who didn’t know his girlfriend wanted to quit).

Episode 3
Two new leaders were selected. Everybody who wanted to be a leader got to speak to the whole group, who later voted for the leaders. Ingeborg became the female leader and beat (a.o.) Jolien. Rudi beat a.o. Frans. Both selected a team and those who weren’t selected (among which was Tim S, who had been stealing food from the other people :P ) had to leave the island. This lead to some controversy, as both leaders got to pick 25 people. Some people who really wanted to stay on the island weren’t picked. However, right before the people who weren’t picked had to leave the island, the host told Rudi & Ingeborg they could each pick 5 more contestants for their team (probably because Sven [one of the former leaders] wasn’t picked and the production really wanted him to stay). Rudi & Ingeborg selected a few people, but all of them declined because they were angry they didn’t get picked the first time. :D At the end, only three people of those who didn’t get picked the first time, accepted this second chance, while basically all the other people quit.

Episode 4
Fan-favorite Farrah quit the show to go home (because of an emergency in the family). The two new teams battled against each other and Rudi’s team won, so Ingeborg had to eliminate a few of her people.

Episode 5
A challenge decided which of the two teams would have to leave the island as a whole. This was a tug-of-war, which was won by Ingeborg team (unfortunately, as all the big characters were on Rudi’s team).

Episodes 6 & 7
Ingeborg’s team did a few challenges to decide which 10 of them made it to the individual stage of the game. The winners were:
1. “Draw” = a floating item with a letter attached was at sea, the team swam out and retrieved the item. Kristien was the first one to touch the letter. When leader Ingeborg read the letter, it stated that the first person to touch the letter would make it to the individual stage, so Kristien was the lucky one (later it was revealed that the production did this “draw” because they hoped that leader Ingeborg would be the first one to touch the letter. The reason they did this was because Ingeborg wanted to go home and they wanted to “force” her to make it to the individual stage by doing this).
2. Physical challenge for the females = Lieke won
3. Physical challenge for the males = Vinni won
4. Mental challenge for the females = Muriel won
5. Mental challenge for the males = Loek won
6. All others voted which person contributed the most to the team = Mieke
7. All others voted which person contributed the most to the team = Willem
8. The seven people who were already selected got to choose three other people. After some discussions they choose Marcel, Hans & Saskia

The ten people (Arthur, Bart, Brigitte, Frans, Frits, Ingeborg, Kenny, Merel, Nelleke & Tim) who didn’t get selected were taken of the island and went to a restaurant where they got some wine and a pizza. But right before they got to eat, the host offered all of them a second chance. If they didn’t eat or drink anything, they could go to a secret island where they had to survive with basic minimals and got a chance to come back in the game. Only two of the ten accepted this offer: Frans & Nelleke

Expeditie Robinson 9 (2007) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 2

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 8th, 2009 by Art

Episode 8
First tribal council.

Kristien = 6 (Hans, Loek, Mieke, Muriël, Saskia & ???)
Saskia = 3 (Kristien, ??? & ???)
Muriël = 1 (Lieke)
Hans/Loek/Marcel/Mieke/Vinni/Willem = 0
Lieke had individual immunity.

Unfortunately, I don’t know who Marcel, Vinni & Willem voted for. As Vinni & Willem were mates, I guess they voted the same which means they voted for Saskia, but I’m not sure. Kristien got voted out because some thought it was unfair that she made it to the individual stage by luck. After being evicted, she also went to the hidden island, where Frans & Nelleke were living.

Episode 9
Second tribal council.

Saskia = 4 (Hans/Marcel/Mieke/Vinni)
Vinni = 2 (Loek/Saskia)
Hans = 1 (Willem)
Lieke = 1 (Muriël)
Muriël = 1 (Lieke)
Loek/Mieke/Willem = 0

Marcel had individual immunity.

The twist was revealed: every week one of the people on the hidden island came back and took part in the individual immunity challenge. If they won, they became a normal participant again. Frans took part in this challenge, but didn’t win. After her elimination, Saskia went to the hidden island.

Episode 10
Third tribal council.

Muriël = 3 (Lieke/Mieke/Vinni)
Loek = 3 (Hans/Marcel/Willem)
Hans = 2 (Loek/Muriël)
Lieke/Marcel/Mieke/Willem = 0

Vinni had individual immunity.

Muriël got eliminated because she had more votes against. People voted for her for being a part of an alliance (with Saskia & Loek). Nelleke took part in the individual immunity challenge, but didn’t win. Muriël went to the hidden island.

Episode 11
Fourth tribal council.

Loek = 6 (everybody)
Marcel = 1 (Loek)
Hans/Lieke/Mieke/Willem = 0

Vinni had individual immunity.

The last remaining member of the alliance got voted out. Saskia took part in the challenge, but didn’t stand a chance.

Nelleke & Kristien left the hidden island, because they were too weak and too annoyed by Frans. Loek went to the hidden island.

Episode 12
Fifth tribal council.

Hans = 3 (Marcel/Mieke/Willem)
Vinni = 2 (Hans/Lieke)
Mieke = 1 (Vinni)
Marcel/Willem = 0

Lieke had individual immunity.

Loek took part in the individual immunity challenge and was the runner-up, but didn’t win. Hans went to the hidden island.

Episode 13
Sixth tribal council.

Mieke = 3 (Marcel/Vinni/Willem)
Willem = 1 (Mieke)
Lieke/Marcel = 0

Vinni had individual immunity.

Lieke voted for Marcel, but she had the right to “delete” one vote (so the vote wouldn’t count) and chose to “delete” her own vote. Hans took part in the challenge and was also the runner-up. Frans wanted to leave the hidden island, but the production didn’t want him to leave (he was the only source of entertainment left in the show), so he threatened to kill the other people and was disqualified from the show. Mieke went to the hidden island.

Episode 14 – Return.

One of the eliminated contestants got to return to the game. First they did an individual challenge where they could win votes for. This is how many votes each eliminated contestant won:

Hans/Mieke = 2
Muriël/Saskia = 1
Loek = 0

After the challenge, the contestants voted for who they wanted to return. Muriël got all votes, she voted for Loek. So the final telly was:

Muriël = 5 (2 from challenge/Hans/Loek/Mieke/Saskia)
Mieke/Hans = 2 (2 from challenge)
Saskia = 1 (1 from challenge)
Loek = 1 (Muriël)

Final
Lieke, Marcel, Muriël, Vinni & Willem made it to the final. They did two challenges and the winners of both challenges made it to the final 2. The results of the challenges were as follows:

Challenge 1= 1st=Vinni / 2nd=Willem / 3rd=Lieke / 4th=Muriël / 5th=Marcel
Challenge 2= 1st=Willem / 2nd=Muriël / 3rd=Marcel / 4th=Lieke

Vinni & Willem both made it to the final two. The seven contestants who made it to the merge and didn’t quit, voted for the winner:

Vinni = 4 (Hans/Marcel/Mieke/Muriël)
Willem = 3 (Lieke/Loek/Saskia)

So Vinni became the winner of Expeditie Robinson 2007 the Netherlands/Belgium.

Expeditie Robinson 7 (2006) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 1

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 6th, 2009 by Art

The teams were divided in a men/women camp. All the men were from Belgium, all the women were from the Netherlands.

Episode 1
In a twist, two former participants returned. They were Klaar (ER 2004) & Robin (ER 2003). Klaar would be the leader of the women team, Robin would lead the men team. They could take part in the challenges, vote at the tribal council (but couldn’t be voted out), but were not eligible to win. They also could give immunity to one of the team members.

The first challenge was won by the men. In the women’s team, Susanna quit because her back couldn’t handle sleeping on wood, she could barely walk after a few days. The other girls had to carry her to the tribal council, where she quit. Nevertheless, there was a tribal council with these results:

Saron = 4 (Linda/Michelle/Patricia/Wietske)
Patricia = 3 (Bernadette/Klaar/Saron)
Linda = 1 (Olga)
Michelle/Olga/Wietske = 0

Klaar gave Bernadette immunity.

Episode 2
Frederik & Matthijs quit this episode. Blah. No tribal council because of this.

Episode 3
Again, someone quit this episode: Patricia, because the women’s team was floated and a piece of wood hit her foot, which meant she couldn’t walk anymore. The men lost the immunity challenge and voted one out, but that person didn’t have to leave due to the quitters. There were the results:

Curd = 4 (Bert/Koen/Lenny/Werner)
Bert = 2 (Curd/Ignazio)
Koen = 1 (Robin)
Ignazio/Lenny = 0

Robin gave Werner immunity.

Episode 4
Guess it or not, but once again someone quit: Saron had mental problems (she went psycho on the island) and quit). There was a reshuffle of the teams. Both leaders got to pick their three strongest people and took them to the other island. The new teams were:

Team North:Curd/Ignazio/Lenny/Linda/Robin/Wietske
Team South:Bernadette/Bert/Klaar/Koen/Olga/Werner

Team South lost the challenge and voted (this time someone had to leave, even though there was a quitter):

Michelle = 5 (Bernadette/Bert/Koen/Olga/Werner)
Bert = 2 (Klaar/Michelle)
Bernadette/Koen/Olga/Werner = 0

Klaar decided not to give anyone immunity.

Episode 5
Team South lost once again the challenge. This were the voting results:

Werner = 4 (Bernadette/Bert/Klaar/Koen)
Bert = 1 (Olga)
Koen = 1 (Werner)
Bernadette/Olga = 0

Klaar, once again, didn’t give immunity away.

Episode 6
And team South lost again and voted like this:

Bert = 3 (Bernadette/Koen/Olga)
Olga = 1 (Bert)
Bernadette/Koen = 0

Klaar & Robin left the show in this episode, because there would be a merge next. Because of this, Klaar didn’t vote. Klaar & Robin both could give a double voting power for the next tribal council to the person who they thought were the strongest. Klaar chose Olga and Robin chose Ignazio.

Expeditie Robinson 7 (2006) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 2

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 6th, 2009 by Art

Episode 7
The merge. Lenny won individual immunity. Ignazio & Olga both had double voting power.

Olga = 6 (Curd/Ignaziox2/Lenny/Linda/Wietske)
Linda = 4 (Bernadette/Koen/Olgax2)
Bernadette/Curd/Ignazio/Koen/Wietske = 0

However, Olga got a second chance: she went to a “Verliezerseiland” (losers island), with which she was quite happy because she didn’t like the other people.

Episode 8
Ignazio won individual immunity.

Koen = 4 (Curd/Ignazio/Linda/Wietske)
Linda = 2 (Bernadette/Lenny)
Curd = 1 (Koen)
Bernadette/Lenny/Wietske = 0

Koen also went to the Verliezerseiland, where his best friend Olga awaited him.

Episode 9
Lenny won individual immunity.

Curd = 5 (Bernadette/Ignazio/Lenny/Linda/Wietske)
Ignazio = 1 (Curd)
Bernadette/Linda/Wietske = 0

Curd, who basically faught with everybody, went to the hidden island, to the disgust of Koen & Olga, who didn’t want to see him there.

Episode 10
Lenny won individual immunity.

Wietske = 3 (Bernadette/Ignazio/Lenny)
Bernadette = 2 (Linda/Wietske)
Linda/Ignazio = 0

The alliance of Ignazio/Lenny/Linda/Wietske fell, because Bernadette managed to make Ignazio & Lenny believe that Wietske & Linda didn’t deserve to be on the island (they basically did nothing). Wietske went to the hidden island, where the other people were not really happy to see her. Olga didn’t even want to talk to her.

Episode 11
Lenny won individual immunity.

Linda = 3 (Bernadette/Ignazio/Lenny)
Bernadette = 1 (Linda)
Ignazio = 0

Wietske saw her best friend back at the Verliezerseiland and finally had someone to talk to.

Episode 12
Lenny won individual immunity.

Bernadette received an extra vote against because she finished last in a challenge, but because she had earlier won a “white” vote, she chose to eliminate that vote against.

He chose to eliminate Ignazio, who went to the hidden island.

Episode 13
The eliminated people, at the hidden island, choose one of them to return to the game.

Olga = 4 (Curd/Koen/Linda/Wietske)
Koen = 2 (Olga/Ignazio)
Curd/Ignazio/Linda/Wietske = 0

Olga returned to the game to take part in the final.

Final
Lenny won the final immunity challenge. However, he couldn’t eliminate one of the other finalists: the earlier eliminated people voted which of the two losers would also go to the final two:

Olga = 3 (Curd/Koen/Linda)
Bernadette = 2 (Ignazio/Wietske)

So it was Olga vs. Lenny in the final. The audience voted for who they thought deserved to win the game. With 52% vs. 48% it was Olga who got the most votes and became the winner after being voted out earlier. Of course, there was some controversy about this (many thought it was unfair that the earlier elimnated people got to save Olga twice), but a nude model who could barely speak Dutch as a winner was much better for the franchise than the rather bland Lenny, so I don’t blame them. :P

Expeditie Robinson 6 (2005) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 1

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 5th, 2009 by Art

This season took place in Panama and the tribes were divided in a young team (people under 30, team Noord) and an old team (people over 40, team Zuid).

First episode
The game started of in a controversial way: all players took part in the first individual/tribal challenge where they were hanging on a cross. The person who hang the longest would win a white vote for a tribal council (with which [s]he can eliminated a vote) and wins immunity for their tribe. The players got eliminated in this order:

Douwe = 1st (old)
Annita = 2nd (old)
John = 3rd (old)
Emma = 4th (young)
Nicole = 5th (young)
Fleur = 6th (young)
Johnny = 7th (young)
Tom = 8th (young)
Wim = 9th (young)
Meredith = 10th (young)

So now, there are five older people and one younger person left. Continuing:

Marleen = 11th (old)
Margriet = 12th (old)
Carl = 13th (old)
Elbert = 14th (old)
Elsje = 15th (old)

Which means the winner is Maxime (young). He gets a white vote, extra food and their team goes to the beach. The older people first have to do something difficult: they have to vote one of them of, without they had ever talked to each other. They get one hour to make their decision. Nobody volunteers, so Margriet first mentions a name: Douwe, because he was the first one to be eliminated in the challenge. The others follow Margriet and all vote out Douwe, who is the first person eliminated from the show.

After the vote, the old team also goes to their island, where they build a shelter and catch food. The youngsters haven’t build anything and spend their time playing a ballgame. That night, the old team faces a setback when Elbert tries to cut a coconut, but accidentally cuts his own hand. He gets stitches, but is not allowed to take part in the challenges. John is angry at Elbert because he is their strongest person and they need him in the challenges.

However, after this first day it turns out these two teams are not the only people on the island. At Harimau, a secret island in the middle of the sea, two other people are living. These are the two people in their 30s in the show. They live in a cave and have no idea who the other participants are.

These two people Esther and Marnix. They live on snails, which upsets Esther because she is a vegetarian and she hates to kill animals. She thinks Marnix and she will be dead in a couple of days because there is so little to eat.

The next day, Johnny tries to lead their team in a hunt for food, but the team rather follows Maxime. He gets angry when Maxime, Emma, Tom and Wim to search for food and he has to stay behind. He is so angry that he doesn’t want to take part in the immunity challenge, but the others convince him to take part anyhow. The challenge is won by the youngsters, which upsets Elbert because he is sure their team would have won had he taken part. Later there is some drama at the island when Elsje thinks John doesn’t contribute the food fairly and that he eats more than the others do, while John thinks that Elsje shouldn’t be on the island because she acts like it is some beauty resort. Also, Margriet notices she isn’t fitting in with the team. When she is swimming with Elsje and Marleen, the two women only talk to each other and ignore Margriet. The voting goes this way:

Margriet = 4 (Elbert, Marleen, Annita, Carl)
John = 1 (Elsje)
Elsje = 1 (John)
Annita = 1 (Margriet)

Margriet is the second oldster to be voted out and leaves the game.

Second episode
The two 30s at Hirimau get the shock of their life when suddenly a big guy with a huge beard stands in their cage. This is Douwe, who gets a second chance after he was voted out by his tribemates. He is the only one who gets a second chance, Margriet is really eliminated. Douwe brings Maxime and Esther a mission: they get a few days to build a raft and to paddle to the island Messirip. If they succeed, both of them and Douwe will return/enter the game. As Douwe is a skipper, he takes the lead with building the shelter.

At the youngsters team, Johnny is still not feeling well. He is angry because nobody listens to him and he cannot be the leader. He gets homesick and wants to visit his wife again. Fleur tries to support him, but doesn’t succeed and Johnny decides to leave the game.

For the reward challenge, the people get to pick their own rewards. The challenge is won by the youngsters, who take some food. They don’t enjoy this, because there is some drama at camp when Maxime goes cut some bamboo and takes all the tools with him. Nicole and Fleur also want to look for food, but cannot do this because Maxime has all the tools. When they talk about this, Maxime gets support by the Belgian people. This leads to a split in the team between the Dutch and Belgian people. The oldsters also have trouble. Elsje goes looking for shells, but while she does a huge wave gets her, so she falls and breaks her leg. Elsje has to leave the show because of this.

The immunity challenge is won by the oldsters, thanks to Elbert who can finally take part in a challenge. It’s a challenge where one person has to hold as much weight as possible, which is really easy for bodybuilder Elbert. He acts obnoxious to the youngsters and makes fun of their efforts when they try to win the game. Back at camp, John is angry at Elbert for acting so childish, which upsets Elbert who was so happy he finally took part in a game.

The youngsters vote one of their own out, which goes this way:

Tom = 3 (Fleur, Nicole, Maxime)
Nicole = 2 (Emma, Meredith)
Fleur 1 (Wim)
Maxime = 1 (Tom)

Strong guy Tom is the third person to be voted out and the third person to leave in this episode.

Third episode
The people at Harimau keep trying to build a raft, but their efforts fail constantly because the sea is too wild to test their raft. Douwe gets annoyed by Esther and Marnix who spend more time giggling than working.

At the young team, Nicole and Fleur are worried by the Belgian people (but these smartasses voted out a Dutch person last tribal council…) and don’t like Maxime. But they are more angry with Emma, Meredith and Wim who never have an opinion and always follow Maxime. At the old team, Annita and Marleen form a friendship and spend a lot of time looking for food. Elbert is building a raft to prove he deserves to be on the island. Carl and John make fun of him and say it takes too much time to build a raft.

For the reward challenge one person of both tribes stays behind. They later go to the shelter of the other tribe and will try to steal as much as possible in five minutes: whatever they steal will be their reward if they win. John takes a lot of food from the youngsters, but Nicole can’t find any food. The oldsters hid all their stuff before the reward challenge because they were worried something like this would happen. The challenge is won by the oldsters.

During the challenge, the three people at Harimau take their last chance to return in the game: they swim with the raft to the other island. Esther is kinda worried because she thinks there are sharks in the sea who will eat her. But she is lucky: all sharks had a day off and the three of them make it to Mensirip and will therefore return in the game next episode. They spend their time by building a shelter at the new beach (Esther & Marnix) and lie on their ass (Douwe).

The immunity challenge is won by the oldsters. The young people have to vote one out. Nicole and Fleur think they are in danger and try to make an alliance with Maxime by convincing him Huey, Dewey and Louie (Wim, Meredith & Emma) don’t deserve to be on the island. Unfortunately, they fail and the voting goes like this:

Nicole = 3 (Emma, Meredith, Wim)
Meredith = 2 (Fleur, Nicole)
Fleur = 1 (Maxime)

Nicole is the next person to leave the show.

Fourth episode
At the old team, Elbert spends his time lying on the beach. He doesn’t want to work anymore because he is angry with John & Carl. John calls him a big child who quits when things don’t go their way. At the young team, Fleur is on the outs. She is very sad that Nicole is voted out and even wanted to switch places with Nicole because she thinks Nicole deserves to be on the island more.

Instead of a reward challenge, there is a tribal reshuffle. Marnix and Esther, who don’t know the other people and have only seen pictures of them, both select a new tribe. Douwe gets to choose in which team he will be and chooses Marnix’ team because he didn’t get along well with Esther. Marnix further chooses Annita and Elbet from the olders and Emma, Fleur & Maxime from the youngsters. Esther gets Carl, John and Marleen from the olders and Meredith and Wim from the youngsters. But there is a little twist: because the teams have to be even, Nicole returns in the game and joins Esther’s team. The new teams are thus:

Team Noord (former Oud) = Annita, Douwe, Emma, Elbert, Fleur, Marnix, Maxime
Team Zuid (former Jong) = Carl, Esther, John, Marleen, Meredith, Nicole, Wim

Maxime and Esther become the leaders of their team and receive immunity until the merge. After this, there is a reward challenge won by Marnix for team Noord.

Team Zuid goes back to their beach, where there is a surprise. There is an extra hut for Esther. As team leader she gets her own place to sleep. Esther doesn’t like this and proposes that every night another person sleeps in the hut. John refuses this offer and says Esther has to sleep there alone. After this, there is a rainstorm and all of Zuid stay in the shelter they build earlier. Esther wants to join them but John won’t let her. He says their team doesn’t need a leader and wants her to stay in her own hamper, as she is a dog. At night there is the same problem: John doesn’t want her to sleep in their shelter and keeps sending her away. The only person who feels sorry for Esther is Nicole, but she doesn’t dare to say so because she is worried this will cost her her place in the game. The next day, John and Carl decide that they don’t believe Esther really spend two weeks in a cage because she doesn’t look bewildered.

The immunity challenge is won by team Noord. Back at camp, John and Carl tell Esther that she has to give up her immunity so they can vote her out. Esther wants to give up her leaders position, but that isn’t enough for John. He is angry that someone else has to be voted out while they all want to vote for Esther (actually, he wants to vote for her and Carl, Huey and Dewey follow him). When Esther says this is unfair, John says that is not his problem. At tribal council, the host asks the team whether they think Esther should still be a leader. To the surprise of John, Marleen, Meredith, Wim and Nicole all say she should be. That means she can keep her immunity. The voting goes this way:

Nicole = 5 (Carl, John, Marleen, Meredith, Wim)
John = 2 (Esther, Nicole)

So for the second week in a row, Nicole gets voted out. This time she surely won’t come back in the show.

Fifth episode
While there is so much trouble at team Zuid, team Noord is living a life of luxury. They all get along, eat well and have a lot of fun. The only trouble is between Annita and Elbert: Annita thinks it’s strange that Elbert wanted to quit a few days ago and is now always working.

In team Zuid, the atmosphere is really bad. Wim and Meredith feel a bit sorry for Esther and try to talk to her. During this talk Esther kinda asks them to form an alliance. First the two agree, but later they refuse. After this, there is a reward challenge. Maxime & Marnix take part for their team and win. They can invite two people of their tribe to have a dinner. They choose Emma and Annita, the weakest people. That means Douwe, Fleur and Elbert can’t eat: interestingly enough the three Dutch people in their tribe. At Zuid, the sphere gets even worse. Carl thinks about quiting because he can’t stand losing so many challenges. However, he gets new energy when he hears that Esther wanted to make an alliance with Wim & Meredith. Both he and John are really angry at her and want her to leave even more now. The next day, they get the chance to do this. In a twist, it is possible for the other tribemates to challenge the leader. One tribemate will face the leader in a challenge and the winner will be the new leader. However, if the tribemate loses all votes cast against them in the next tribal council will count double. John decides to take this challenge and he and Esther take part in a very exciting game. Finally, it is Esther who wins this game. At team Noord, nobody decides to challenge Marnix as they are all really happy with the way he leads their team. Later, there is more drama in team Zuid when Esther loses the magnesium stick, so their team cannot make fire and they have to eat cold food.

The reward challenge is won by team Noord, so Zuid once again has to vote someone out. The voting is hardly exciting:

John = 10 (Carl x2, Esther x2, Marleen x2, Meredith x2, Wim x2)
Marleen = 1 (John)

Because of the double voting power, John gets the boot.

Sixth episode
Esther is still alone in her tribe: the others blame her for the elimination of John. At the same time, Wim and Meredith feel really weak because there is hardly any food left. At Noord, everybody gets along. Only Elbert is feeling bad: he is homesick again and wants to go home again. Marnix convinces him not to quit yet and take part in their challenge because they need his strength. The challenge is won by team Noord and they win a call from home. This gives Elbert new strength and now he wants to stay again. They all call home, except for Douwe who doesn’t feel the need to call home. Later, the Dutch people go search for food. During this, Douwe is constantly flirting with Fleur because he thinks she is the most beautiful woman he ever saw. After the search he makes a trap to catch fish.

At team Zuid, there is another chance for the tribemates to challenge Esther as leader. This time Carl decides to do this because he feels he has to do this for John, but Marleen beliefs he does it for the immunity. The challenge is again very exciting, but is won by Carl. Esther hopes this means she won’t be constantly attacked anymore.

The immunity challenge is won by team Noord, who have now won nine challenges in a row. After the challenge, team Noord notices how Esther is feeling bad and realize she will be voted out. They feel really sorry for her and try to support her. Back at camp, this upsets Meredith, Wim and Carl who don’t think it is fair that team Noord supports only one person and even someone they hardly know. At camp Noord, the team is angry because Carl wants to vote for Esther. Douwe, who actually felt liked Esther after all, says he wants to vote Carl out first when there is a merge. However, Esther might get a lifeline: Wim is still feeling extremely ill and doesn’t think he can continue the show for much longer. The voting goes this way:

Esther = 4 (Carl, Marleen, Meredith, Wim)
Wim = 1 (Esther)

So Esther does have to leave.

Seventh episode
The merge is coming, but two participants won’t be around for this. The first one is Wim: he is feeling so badly that the medical team examines him and decides that he is too weak to continue with the show. Therefore, he has to quit hours after Esther was voted out.

The other ten candidates come together on a beach, but it turns out that this isn’t the merge yet. They have to enter a boat and peddle to another beach. At that beach there is a big table with nine chairs. At the head of the table is a big chair: the first person to reach this chair wins immunity. Marnix, as the winner of the last immunity challenge can decide in what order the people will sit in the boat: the person at the front will have the most chance to arrive at the big chair first. He puts himself in the front, followed by the other people of his team. At the end, he puts the people of Zuid with Carl at the very end. Right before the team starts peddling to the new island, the host tells them a new twist. There are only nine chairs to the table, but ten people. That means the person who doesn’t arrive at the table in time doesn’t get a chair and will have to leave the game immediately. The team starts peddling and after an hour arrive at the other beach. Emma is the first to jump out of the ship and to reach the table, but she forgets to go to the right chair and sits on another one. She doesn’t win immunity, but this goes to Marnix. For the last chair there is a battle between the two friends Marleen and Annita. It looks like both sit on the chair at the same time, but after a closer look it turns out Marleen was just a bit faster. Therefore, Annita has to leave the game as well.

The others enjoy a goof meal and have a party that evening. The next day they start building their shelter. Douwe is the only one not participating: he is busy making another trap for fish. While Maxime, Marnix and Carl build a shelter, Marnix asks Carl about Esther. He thinks Carl never gave Esther a fair chance and will therefore vote for him at the next tribal council. Douwe also has trouble with Carl, when he notices that Carl took one of his traps and caught a fish with it. However, neither can vote for Carl at tribal council because he wins immunity. One of the people they can vote for is Elbert, who is again angry that he didn’t win immunity and wants to go home again. He tells the others that he wouldn´t mind if they voted him out. That night however, there is no voting. The candidates get information about a new voting system. There will be six tribal council until the final. This means everybody can cast six votes. All candidates receive these votes now and can use them whenever they want. They can fe. decide not to vote at a tribal council and spare votes, or use all six of the votes to vote out a strong person. Today there won´t be a tribal council, but Marnix and Carl, as both winners of immunity, do leave the team and go to a secret island.

Expeditie Robinson 6 (2005) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 3

Eigth episode
Marnix and Carl went to Goal: the “Winners island”. Everybody who wins immunity will go to this island. The people there cannot vote at tribal council but can neither be voted for. But there can only be two people at the island, so when someone wins immunity, they have to choose one of the people at Goal to go back to the normal team.

At Mensirip, the place where the two teams merged, people have different opinions about the new voting system. The Belgians don’t like this, but the Dutch people are really happy. Especially Elbert, who now really wants to continue with the show again and wants to vote out the strong people so he can win. The reward challenge is won by Maxime, who can write letters to home from all the participants. Douwe asks Maxime to write a letter to the pub where he is always drinking because he doesn’t have many friends of family. At Goal, Marnix enjoys the company of a little monkey called “Chico”, but Carl doesn’t like the cute animal and is angry because the animal always tries to steal the food they received. Marnix doesn’t like the way Carl treats the animal.

The immunity challenge is won by Emma. However, more important is who loses because the person who finishes last gets an extra vote against for the next tribal council. This is Douwe. Back at camp, Elbert once again asks his team to vote him out because he lost another challenge. The others get frustrated by this, especially Douwe and Fleur who always tried to support him. At tribal council, the voting goes this way:
Elbert = 3 (Emma, Marleen, Meredith)
Douwe = 1 (last in challenge)
Elbert gets the most votes against and finally has to leave the show. Emma also leaves her team and goes to Goal.

Ninth tribal council
Emma arrives at Goal with some fruit. She decides to send Carl back to the team and share the fruit with Marnix and Chico, who really enjoys Emma’s companionship at Goal.
At Mensirip, Marleen is baking some cookies for the team, who are really anxious for this. This changes when they see Carl arriving again, nobody is happy to see him. Only Maxime doesn’t mind Carl and the two of them go search for food. They return with some food, but nobody thanks them. Carl gets angry about this and refuses to search for more food when nobody is willing to treat him normally. The reward challenge is won by Maxime and Fleur, who get a romantic dinner. During this dinner they have to make a difficult choice: they have to give a black vote to someone. Maxime wants to give this to Douwe, but he is Fleurs best friend. Fleur wants to vote for Carl, who is Maxime’s best friend. They decide to vote for neither and to draw between Marleen and Meredith. The unlucky one is Marleen.
The immunity challenge is one where they have to lie with their head right above the sea which is slowly rising. The person who lies the longest wins. It’s a tough match between Maxime and Carl. Carl finally wins, after Maxime has to be taken out of the challenge because he almost drowned. He goes to the hospital, but after a night there he returns in the game.
Right after his return there is the tribal council. Maxime still has the white vote he won at the very first challenge, but he doesn’t want to use it yet. The voting goes this way:
Maxime = 8 (Douwe x6, Fleur x2)
Douwe = 2 (Marleen x2)
Marleen = 1 (extra vote)
Marleen voted for Douwe to make sure she doesn’t leave when nobody votes, but Douwe decided to use all of his vote and vote for Maxime. Therefore, the strongest person has to leave, to the shock of the others.

Tenth tribal council
Carl arrives at Goal, but is really angry because Maxime got voted out. He tells a dramatic story about the apparent betrayal of Douwe to Marnix and Emma. Marnix also gets angry and decides he wants to return in the game and ask Douwe why he did this. So Emma has to stay behind with Carl, which she really didn’t want to do.
Marnix arrives back at Mensirip and talks with Douwe. He explains how he had to do this otherwise he would get the boot. Somehow during the talk, Douwe convinces Marnix that is was actually Carl’s fault that Maxime got the boot (Carl voted after Douwe did and could see that Douwe was casting eight votes). Now Marnix is angry at Carl and thinks Carl betrayed his best friend. He tells this to the others, who also get angry at Carl. The reward challenge is won by Marnix, who wins letters from home. With the letters he gets some cookies, which he shares with the other people.
At Goal, Emma is done with Carl. He is always talking about the game and she doesn’t care about the game. She is also angry because Carl talks badly about Emma’s best friend Meredith.
At Mensirip, all the people decide to make an alliance to vote Carl out. They want someone other than Marnix to win immunity, so the winner of immunity can go to Goal and send Carl back. In the next immunity challenge, the strongest person, Marnix, should beat Carl so they vote him out. There is only one problem with this: someone has to be voted out tomorrow before they can vote for Carl. Because nobody wants to volunteer himself, this plan fails. Later, the immunity challenge is won again by Marnix, who has now won every individual challenge he took part in. He also gets to cast a black vote, which he gives to Douwe because Douwe finished last in the challenge. At the next tribal council there is a surprise: Marleen, Meredith and Fleur can eliminate one of the votes they have left and their right to vote in this tribal council, to get a letter from home. All of them decide to do this, Douwe can’t because he doesn’t have any votes left. The tribal council this time is really simple:
Douwe = 1 (black vote from Marnix)
Nobody else voted, so Douwe has to leave the show.

Expeditie Robinson 6 (2005) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 4

Eleventh tribal council
After Douwe’s elimination there are three women left at Mensirip. They soon get another man, because Marnix decided to take Carl’s place at Goal. Emma is really happy with this, she gets along much better with Marnix than with Carl. When Carl arrives at Mensirip again, the women ignore him and he spends all his time alone. The next day, when Carl goes fishing, Fleur tells the other two women that Carl talked to her yesterday and said he would never vote her out. Marleen and Meredith don’t like to hear this and want Carl to go even more now.

The reward challenge is won by Meredith, after Carl decided not to take part. The price is namely a visit of a loved one and Carl thinks the women deserve to get this more than he does. Meredith goes to another island where – to her surprise – six people live. These are all the loved ones. She can talk to all of them and when the day is over, go back to her old team and tell the others that she talked to their loved ones.

The immunity challenge is a balance one. Fleur is the first one to be eliminated, followed by Marleen. It’s a match between Meredith and Carl. Finally, it’s Meredith who wins. She decides to cast the black vote she gets to Carl. Back at camp, Carl is really angry he got this vote. He attacks Meredith and thinks she doesn’t deserve to be on the island because all she does is sleep. She never does any of the chores. The women are angry at him and decide among themselves to use all the votes they have left to vote Carl out. They are done with the tactical game and eliminate all the votes they have left. So the voting goes this way:

Carl = 10 (Fleur x3, Marleen x2, Meredith x4)

Carl himself decided not to vote and gets finally eliminated.

Twelfth tribal council
Meredith arrives at Goal,where she decides to send Marnix back to the old team because Emma is her best friend. The two enjoy their time together and are even more lucky when their loved ones visit Goal. However, this luck doesn’t last forever and the next day, the two friends have to battle each other in a challenge. The person who loses has to return to Mensirip, while the winner is qualified for the final. This loser is Meredith, who spend only one night at Goal and goes back to the team. Emma now made it to the final and had immunity for every tribal council because she won one immunity challenge and spend loads of time at Goal.

The team was partying because Carl got eliminated, but are surprised to see Meredith return. They are happy for Emma, but are worried because they now know the final is next. At the reward challenge they get a shock because their family members do the challenge instead of them. It is the mother of Fleur who wins the challenge and gets to spend some time with her, while Marnix and Marleen still haven’t talked to their family members yet.

The next day, Fleur’s mothers leaves again and the other candidates take part in the immunity challenge. Meredith finishes last in the challenge, followed by Marleen and Fleur. This means Marnix again won a challenge. He has to cast a black vote again and gives this to Meredith, because she finished last. Because she and the other women don’t have any votes left this means the only way Meredith can be saved is if Marnix votes for someone else. But he makes clear he is not going to do this, so Meredith will have to leave the show. Again, we get a tribal council with very little votes:

Meredith = 1 (black vote)

So, obviously Meredith has to leave.

Final
It’s time for the final. Emma, Fleur, Marleen and Marnix. Emma returns back at Mensirip and is really angry when she sees that Meredith was voted out. She blames Marnix because she thinks Marnix should have saved her and voted out someone else.
The first challenge is a classic: a balance challenge which is done every year. The person who finishes last will be eliminated immediately. Marnix thinks he will be this person, but it’s obvious that it is Fleur who has the most trouble. She has horrible balance and always did badly in these kind of challenges. After almost two hours she is the first one to fall off the beam which means Fleur is eliminated from the final. The other three continue and it’s Emma who falls second, followed by Marleen. This means Marnix has won and gets two extra votes besides the six he still has.

During the last day the three people left, Emma, Marleen and Marnix, burn down their camp. That night they go to the final tribal council where they meet the jury. They answer their questions and the six jury members vote. But there is a twist: the finalists who have votes left can use these votes for themselves or another finalist. Marnix has eight votes (six who he never cast plus two he won at the last challenge) and Emma has five votes left. They cast these after the jury, Marleen has no votes and cannot vote.

The next day there is a little surprise: the three finalists take part in their final challenge. With this challenge they can win even more votes: they have to answer questions about the other candidates and if they get these right, they win two extra votes. The person who goes through the challenge the fastest gets another four votes. Because the three take the challenge separately, they don’t know how they have done it: they will hear this after a few months, during the reunion show.

At the reunion show, all the results of the voting and the challenge are revealed. But this is not the only thing: the audience also gets to vote for who they think should win. So there are many factors who get to vote: 25% of the vote is decided by the jury members/the finalists vote, 25% is decided by the final challenge and 50% is decided by the televoting. The results of all these voting were:

Jury vote
Elbert = Marnix
Maxime = Marnix
Douwe = Emma
Carl = Marnix
Meredith = Emma
Fleur = Marleen
Marnix = 3 votes
Emma = 2 votes
Marleen = 1 vote

Finalists vote
Marnix = 8 votes (cast all of his votes to himself)
Emma = 5 votes (cast all of her votes to herself)
Marleen = 0 votes

Challenge
Marnix was the only one to answer the first question right. The second question was answered right by all three of them and the third question was answered right by Emma and Marleen. The fastest time of the challenge was by Marnix. This means the finalists get these extra votes:
Marnix = 4 votes
Emma = 2 votes
Marleen = 2 votes

Audience
We never got to see the final results, but these was the final intermediate score before the full results were announced:
Marnix = 48%
Emma = 33%
Marleen = 19%

In full, this means that the final results are (of all of the above combined in some percentage):

Marnix = 53%
Emma = 29,5%
Marleen = 17,5%

This means Marnix is the (obvious) winner of Expeditie Robinson 2005!

Expeditie Robinson 5 (2004) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 1

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 3rd, 2009 by Art

For this season, the teams were divided in a Dutch team and a Belgian team.

First episode
The 18 participants are on a boat, where they are in formal clothes and get to know each other with a drink and something to eat. Suddenly, the host appears and tells them the show has started. Their first task is to make it to a cage, situated on an island. The people have to jump of the boat and swim to the cage, where they have to climb into it. The last person to make it into the cage is eliminated right away. The first person to get to the cage is Mohamed, quickly followed by some other people. The three with most trouble are Mitchell, Henk and Ernestine. Of these, Henk makes it to the cage first, while Mitchell and Ernestine have a lot of trouble to climb in the cage. Finally, Mitchell makes it which means Ernestine ended last and it eliminated.

After this, all Dutch people leave the cage and go to their island. The Belgian people stay in the cage, because someone else has to be eliminated. They have to stay in the cage until they decide who this person is. After 45 hours it is Sarah who has to leave the cage: the cage is situated in the burning sun and she hardly drank any water so she had to go. In those 45 hours, the Dutch team hasn’t build a shelter yet or found any food because they spend most of their time arguing and talking about what needs to be done. Klaar doesn’t take part in this, she thinks it is ridiculous to talk so much.

After four days, it turns out that Ernestine & Sarah are not eliminated. They go to a secret mangrove wood. The space they have is 5 m2 and they get hardly any food, only some water and rice. It’s a horrible place to live, with loads of water, wet wood (so they can’t make fire) and insects.

The immunity challenge, a balance challenge, is won by the Belgian team. The Dutch team has to vote and does it this way:

Klaar = 5 (Jeroen, Marjolein, Patrick, Ronald, Shandinella)
Patrick = 1 (Klaar)
Frouke = 1 (Henk)
Henk = 1 (Frouke)

Sour thumb Klaar is voted out first, with which she is really disappointed. But then she gets the offer to go to the mangrove wood, which she accepts immediately.

Second episode
Klaar arrives at the mangrove wood, where she tells Ernestine & Sarah about how horrible it was to live with the Dutch team. The Dutch team continues with their talking: they try to make agreements on who has to do what and when. It is Henk who wants to do all this talking and who takes the lead. However, after a few days he has to take more and more breaks because living on the island is harder than he thought it would be. In the Belgian team there is some drama because Mick notices he doesn’t fit in with the group. Therefore, he tries to make an alliance with Matthias and says he wants to vote out Mohamed first, not knowing that Matthias and Mohamed already have an agreement.

The Belgian team win the reward challenge and are visited by a Malaysian guide, who teaches them about living on the island. The Belgian team also visits the Dutch team, where they take some coconuts from them. The Dutch are quite angry about this and really want to win the immunity challenge. Unfortunately, they lose because Frouke can’t get past a balance beam. They have to vote someone out and Henk tells the others he wants to go, because he is the weakest. However, the hosts find out about this and tell Henk he has to go (without voting, because he asked to be voted out). After Henk’s departure there is a voting, but obviously the person with the most votes doesn’t have to go:

Frouke = 4 (Jeroen, Patrick, Ronald, Shandinella)
Ronald = 2 (Frouke, Marjolein)

Frouke does, however, get a “black vote” for the next tribal council.

Third episode
Because Henk “quit” rather than being voted out, he can’t go to the mangrove. In the Belgian team there is more and more tension: Mick and Mitchell are always fighting over the most stupid things, which really annoys the other people. The Dutch team grew closer after Henk’s departure. Only Frouke doesn’t feel well because of the black vote against. In the mangrove there is also some tension: Sarah is really weak and doesn’t help Klaar and Ernestine when they are looking for food. Klaar thinks Sarah should go, because all she does is eat the very little food they have left and it seems unlikely that Sarah will reach the individual stage. Klaar and Ernestine convince Sarah that it is better to go and so she does.

The reward challenge is won by the Belgian team. They get a meal, served by the two people who took part for the Dutch team (it was a 2vs.2 challenge): Ronald and Marjolein. Ronald is really grumpy when he has to serve the food, but Marjolein is enjoying it and bonds with the Belgian team. That team is kinda annoyed by Mick, because he treats the servants very badly. After this meal, Matthias, Peter and Mohamed make an alliance. They want Mick out and will therefore lose the next challenge on purpose, so they can vote him out. And so it happens, the Dutch team get a much needed win and Mick gets the boot, with these voting results:

Mick = 7 (Darline, Frank, Kelly, Matthias, Mitchell, Mohamed, Peter)
Darline = 1 (Mick)

Mick leaves, but gets a second chance in the mangrove woods.

Fourth episode
Mick joins Klaar & Ernestine in the mangrove woods, where Ernestine has had it with living in the woods. The fact that she doesn’t know what will happen next makes it really hard for her. In the Belgian team, Peter, Mohamed & Matthias ask Kelly to join their alliance. However, this alliance won’t hold long because the two teams get switched. The two oldest people in both teams, Ronald (NL) & Darline (B) have to select the strongest male and female from the other team and this person will join their former teams. This way, Mohamed & Kelly switch from the Belgian team to the Dutch team and Patrick & Marjolein switch from the Dutch team to the Belgian team. Right after this, there is a challenge which is won by the new Dutch team. Back in the Belgian camp, Patrick annoys the Belgian candidates because he complains about everything. Marjolein fits in better with the Belgian and tells Patrick she won’t help him: he is alone in the game now.

The immunity challenge is won the Belgian team. This really upsets Mohamed: it is the first time he loses a challenge. He gets really grumpy and even gets into a fight with Shandinella, who was extremely positive until that moment. Mohamed doesn’t want to talk with any of his tribemates. However, he gets a saving when Jeroen tells the others they can vote him out. But a few hours later, he withdraws this offer because he decides he actually wants to stay. The voting goes this way:

Jeroen = 3 (Frouke, Kelly, Mohamed)
Frouke = 2 (Jeroen, black vote)
Mohamed = 2 (Ronald, Shandinella)

Jeroen gets the most votes against, but he doesn’t have to leave. That’s because right before tribal council, Patrick has left the Belgian team because of an injury he got while taking part in the reward challenge. Jeroen does get an extra vote for the next tribal council.

Fifth episode
No one joins the mangrove team, but they don’t mind. While the Dutch team were voting someone out, they “attacked” the Dutch camp (the mangrove is in the middle of the island where both the Belgian team and the Dutch team live) and stole all the food of the camp. So when the Dutch team comes back, there is no food left. Ronald thinks the Belgian team stole all their food and is really angry. The next day, Frouke & Kelly refuse to do any work and lie on the beach the whole day, complaining about Ronald. In the Belgian team, the members get annoyed by Mitchell because they think she cooks too much food everyday. Others are annoyed by Marjolein because she tries desperately to fit in.

The reward challenge is won by the Dutch team. They can call home for 20 minutes. Shandinella and Mohamed call their children, but Ronald cannot get into contact with his family so he gets nothing. After everybody called there is still 4 minutes left. Ronald goes to the Belgian team and wants to trade these four minutes calling for some food. The Belgian team agrees, only Mitchell doesn’t like this idea. While Ronald is at the Belgian team, Jeroen decides to quit again, but this time for real. He is angry because he received three votes at the last tribal council and is done with the show. When Ronald comes back he is shocked to see that Jeroen is gone and is really disappointed in him. Ronald is now in the minority in his team and he tries to make friends with Mohamed, Kelly & Frouke (who has joined their alliance), but Mohamed doesn’t want to speak to him. In the mangrove team, Klaar & Mick are constantly fighting. Mick wants to go to the Belgian team to steal food, but Klaar wants to reserve their energy. After some consoling by Ernestine, Mick & Klaar make up again. During the immunity challenge, they attack the Belgian team and manage to still a lot of food. The immunity challenge is won by the Dutch team. The Belgian team vote, but because Jeroen quit nobody has to leave. The one with the most votes does get a black vote against:

Mitchell = 4 (Frank, Marjolein, Matthias, Peter)
Marjolein = 1 (Darline)
Peter = 1 (Mitchell)

Expeditie Robinson 5 (2004) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 2

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 3rd, 2009 by Art

Sixth episode
The mangrove people return in the mangrove with the food they stole. During the theft, Klaar & Mick had a fight again because Klaar didn’t want to steal all the food of the Belgian team, but Mick did want to because he is still angry he got voted out. He even stole his old bandanna, but no one in the Belgian team notices. The Belgian team thinks the Dutch stole their food.

The next day, the merge happens. Darline, Frank, Marjolein, Matthias, Mitchell and Peter from the Belgian team and Frouke, Kelly, Mohamed, Ronald and Shandinella from the Dutch team meet on a boat, where they get to eat again (like when the show started). They get a lot of food and music, so they can dance. The people in the mangrove hear this music and check what is going on. They see there is a merge and find out the two teams will leave together at the Belgian beach (named “Teluk”, which will be the name of the merged tribe). Therefore, they can leave the mangrove and go to the Dutch beach and live there.

After the food and music, the merge people get a shock. Just like at the first day, there is a challenge coming up. They all go to a place where eleven hammocks are lying. Everybody has to take a hammock and try to stay awake as long as possible. The first person to fall asleep has to leave the game immediately. After much talking, it is Shandinella who is the unlucky one and falls asleep. But obviously, she doesn’t have to go: she joins the mangrove people. The other people try to stay awake, because the last person to fall asleep wins immunity. It’s Mitchell, Darline and Mohamed who stay awake the longest. Finally, it’s Mohamed who wins immunity.
After this, Teluk goes to their new beach. There Marjolein notices that Kelly, Matthias, Peter, Mohamed and Frouke have an alliance. She confronts these people with it, but they deny it. Mitchell also joins the conversation, which annoys Marjolein because Mitchell attacks the five more harshly than Marjolein wanted to do. Next, there is a tribal council with an obvious result:

Mitchell = 7 (extra vote, Frouke, Kelly, Marjolein, Matthias, Mohamed, Peter)
Kelly = 3 (Darline, Frank, Mitchell)
Ronald = 1 (Ronald)

Mitchell leaves, but she can go to the mangrove people. At least, if they accept her…

Seventh episode
Mitchell goes to the mangrove wood, where Mick is really unhappy to see her. He hates her and doesn’t want her to join the team. Because of the merge, the rules of the game changed. This means that eliminated participants can only join the mangrove people if these people want to accept the eliminated person (they might not want to accept this person, because the more people join them, the more concurrents there are to win the game). Mitchell arrives at the beach with three chicken. If the mangrove people accept her, they also get the chicken. Mitchell lives on the island for a day, after which they vote. During this night, there is a huge storm on the island. Because of this storm, Ernestine breaks down mentally. She doesn’t want to live on the island anymore and decides to leave. Therefore, Mick, Shandinella and Klaar have to decide to accept Mitchell or not. Mick keeps saying he doesn’t want her and manages to convince the women, which means Mitchell has to leave the game for real now.

The merged people do their first reward challenge, where Mohamed wins again. He can visit a small fishing village, where he can buy food with some money. However, his tribemates only get this food if they can guess what he bought. They only guess chocolate, coffee and cola, so they only get these things. Mohamed gets angry about this and refuses to eat the coffee. The others enjoy the food they got, except for Frouke. She was also affected badly by the storm that broke down Ernestine and doesn’t have the energy to do anything. When Ronald says something about this, Mohamed gets angry. Later, Mohamed and Ronald have another fight when the team catches fish with the fishing net and Mohamed takes these fish, while the team agreed to get the fish with the whole team. Later, Kelly wins immunity to the surprise of many. After the challenge there is another fight between Ronald and Mohamed, which annoys everybody at the camp. After the fight, there is the following voting:

Frouke = 5 (Darline, Frank, Marjolein, Matthias, Ronald)
Ronald = 2 (Kelly, Mohamed)
Matthias = 1 (Frouke)
Marjolein = 1 (Peter)

Frouke asked to be voted out and her wish is granted. She gets the offer to go to the mangrove, but she refuses because she feels too weak.

Eighth episode
At the camp of the mangrove people there are more and more fights: Klaar and Mick clearly do not get along at all. Both complain to Shandinella about the other and she tries to be the mediator to keep things all right.

At Teluk, the alliance of five seems to fall apart. Peter and Matthias think Mohamed is acting childish with regards to his fight with Ronald. Kelly is the only one who supports Mohamed. Later, there is a reward challenge, but one with a twist. The person who finishes last in the challenge has to leave the game immediately (aka: go to the mangrove people, who have too little people because Mitchell & Frouke didn’t join them). The reward challenge is an elimination challenge: two people face each other and the one who loses faces the loser of another match. First, Mohamed beats an angry Matthias. Second, Ronald beats Darline. Third, Kelly beats Peter and finally, Marjolein beats Frank. In the second round, Frank beats Peter and Matthias beats Darline. Peter and Darline fight each other and the loser has to leave the game. After an intense match, it’s Darline who loses. But obviously, she doesn’t have to go and joins the mangrove people, who first have to accept her.

The mangrove people are shocked to see Darline there, because she was quite popular with her former tribe and she was really strong. Darline arrives at the beach with pictures and letters from home of Mick, Klaar & Shandinella. They immediately decide to accept Darline in their team so they can read the letters. Only Klaar was not sure at first, because she thinks Darline cannot be trusted.

The four people who won the first round in the reward challenge, Mohamed, Ronald, Kelly and Marjolein, also win letters. Kelly, Marjolein and Ronald all decide to pass this price, so Frank, Peter and Matthias receive letters. This upsets Mohamed and Peter, because they think Ronald did this as a tactical move. Later, there is the immunity challenge which is won by Marjolein. Right before the voting, Kelly finds out she is homesick and decides to leave as well, which makes her the eighth quitter in this season). The others still have to vote and the one with the most votes has to leave the game, even if Kelly quit:

Ronald = 4 (Frank, Matthias, Mohamed, Peter)
Mohamed = 1 (Marjolein)
Peter = 1 (Ronald)

Ronald gets the offer to go to the mangrove people.

Ninth episode
Ronald arrives at the mangrove beach, there Mick, Klaar, Shandinella and Darline have to decide whether to accept Ronald. Shandinella and Mick want to, but Klaar is doubting again. She finally decides to accept him, so there are now five people in the mangrove team and five people at Teluk. This means it is time for the mangrove people to take part in the challenge which will decide whether they can return in the game or not. This is a difficult challenge: they have to cross the jungle in one hour. If they succeed, all of them will return in the game, if they fail, they are all eliminated. The challenge seems easy at first, but becomes really difficult after 20 minutes. That is when Klaar suddenly sees her sister in the woods: she can meet her sister, but if she takes too long the team might fail their challenge. After a few words, Mick tells Klaar they have to continue. Twenty minutes later they also see Mick’s wife. He is really happy to see her, but now it is Klaar who tells him to hurry up. Later, the team also meets the aunt of Shandinella, the husband of Darline and the wife of Ronald. After a few very quick words they continue and finally arrive at the other end of the jungle. They took 52 minutes for their trip, which means Klaar, Mick, Shandinella, Darline and Ronald all return in the game.

At Teluk, the reward challenge had taken place. This one also took an hour: the participants have to guess when one hour is over by stepping in a circle. Peter loses this challenge because he misheard it and steps in the circle after a minute. Frank made a sun clock, but this fails when the clouds cover the sun. Finally, it is Matthias who wins the challenge. He gets a dinner with two people of his choice, which are Frank and Marjolein. Peter & Mohamed go back to their camp and are shocked when they see five old faces back. They are mostly angry to see their old enemies, Ronald and Mick. They are also angry at Matthias because he didn’t choose his old friends to go to dinner with him. Mohamed is the most angry and decides he wants to leave the game, which makes him number nine to do so. After the dinner, Matthias, Marjolein and Frank arrive back at the beach. They are shocked to see the five losers (as they call them) and even more shocked when Mohamed is gone. The next morning there is some drama when the five mangrove people take a lot of the food and bake pancakes. Peter is really disappointed in this and also decides to quit, bye bye number ten. The eighth people left take part in the immunity challenge, where Mick is the winner to his delight. The mangrove people now seem to have the upper hand: they are with five and the others are with three. However, Darline breaks the alliance she made with the mangrove people and decides to rejoin Frank, Matthias and Marjolein. At tribal council, both teams vote for each other:

Darline = 4 (Klaar, Mick, Ronald, Shandinella)
Klaar = 4 (Darline, Frank, Marjolein, Matthias)

Because of the tie, a draw will determine who has to go. The unlucky one turns out to be Darline. She now has to leave the show for real.

Expeditie Robinson 5 (2004) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 3

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 3rd, 2009 by Art

Tenth episode
At camp, there still is a lot of tension. Only Matthias is still ready to fight: he wants to beat the losers badly. Frank is angry because the losers take all of the food he caught for the tribe and don’t search for their own food. He also gets upset when the people use their tools and don’t clean them up. The reward challenge is won by Shandinella. She can choose between some rice for the team and an extra vote for the next tribal council. She decides to go for the rice, so the team has more to eat. The team is happy with this, except for Marjolein who doesn’t like it that Shandinella is now more popular. All of the mangrove people are annoyed by Marjolein, because they think she treats them badly, so they want to vote her out next. At the immunity challenge there is an extra price for the winner: they also get the extra vote Shandinella didn’t accept. In some strange way I cannot explain it is the person everybody wanted to vote for who wins immunity: Marjolein. This means her alliance of her, Frank and Matthias now have four votes against the four of the former mangrove people. It would be an exciting tribal council, if it weren’t for Klaar. The strange women suddenly decides that she thinks Ronald doesn’t deserve to be in the game. She wants to break the alliance and vote Ronald out next. Mick gets really angry about this and insults her over and over again. At tribal council, the voting goes the following way:

Mick = 4 (Frank, Marjolein x2, Matthias, Shandinella)
Klaar = 2 (Mick, Ronald)
Ronald = 1 (Klaar)

So it is strongest member of the mangrove people Mick who has to leave for good this time (btw, this must be some kind of record for an alliance, to only vote for each other at both tribal councils they go to :P ).

Eleventh tribal council
The mangrove people managed to break down their own alliance, so it’s now three versus three again. Ronald works really hard to prove he deserves to be on the island. Frank thinks this is strange because Ronald hardly work before Mick was voted out. For the reward challenge, the teams have to form male-female duo’s. Matthias & Klaar and Frank & Shandinella become teams, so Marjolein has to form a team with the person she dislikes the most: Ronald. Of course, they win the reward challenge and get to spend the night in a resort, with loads of alcohol and food. This upsets Shandinella: last week she won nothing for herself and now Ronald & Marjolein get a lot of food. But she peps herself up by giving a fitness show for the whole team, while Ronald & Marjolein quarrel a lot during the feast. However, they also talk a bit. During these talks, Ronald tells Marjolein he would never vote her out. She later tells this to Matthias, to whom Ronald also said he would never vote him out. Both don’t trust him anymore, so the immunity challenge becomes really important for him. Luckily for him, he does win the challenge and survives another round. This upsets Klaar, who calls Ronald a zero, a loser and a cockroach. She knows she is the next one to go and wants to make the most of her last day on the island. Marjolein is happy that Klaar is going, but Frank is upset because he thinks Klaar is quitting and no one should do that. However, it turns out that Klaar is correct: at tribal council she receives five votes against while she votes for Frank because she thinks Frank is the strongest person left and deserves to win.

Klaar = 5 (Frank, Matthias, Marjolein, Ronald, Shandinella)
Frank = 1 (Klaar)

Twelfth episode
The team has a lot of trouble with their food: they thought the show would last 42 days, but it turns out it will last a few days longer. They have to eat even less than they did, which upsets all tribemates. Only Ronald is happy, because he once again survived the voting. He tries a new tactic and tells Frank and Matthias that he is interested to invest money in the dreams both men have. At the next challenge all people win food, but Frank gets to meet the jury who can ask him some questions and he can try to influence them to vote for him. The jury is really happy to see Frank: he is obviously their favorite because Frank is an extremely hard worker, he is the daddy figure of the team and knows all about surviving. However, some are disappointed because Frank sometimes seems to be a follower, especially with the voting, but Frank manages to answer all questions of the jury in a way which satisfies the jury. The people who didn’t win the challenge are worried that Frank might be the one to beat and that they should go after him. The next immunity challenge is very important as it is the last one for the final. It is Frank who wins the challenge and Marjolein ends last. Because she ended last, she gets a black vote against for the next tribal council. This upsets Marjolein, because she might now get voted out. She is really grumpy. At the voting, these results happen:

Marjolein = 3 (Ronald, Shandinella, extra vote)
Ronald = 3 (Frank, Matthias, Marjolein)

A tie. Because of the tie, votes cast in the past (since the merge) count. Marjolein has no votes against and Ronald has one vote, that one vote Klaar cast to him and which blew up the mangrove people alliance. Therefore, Ronald has to leave the show.

Final
Frank, Marjolein, Matthias and Shandinella have reached the final. There will be three challenges. The person who doesn’t win a challenge leaves the game, while the other three battle each other in the mangrove for a spot in the final. The final starts with a classic: an endurance challenge. Matthias is the first one to leave that challenge, followed by Shandinella. It’s Frank vs. Marjolein, a battle won by Marjolein.

The second challenge is a challenge about how well they know their survival skills and a mental challenge. It’s finally Matthias who wins this and also makes the final three.

Shandinella and Frank battle each other in another endurance challenge. After many, many hours it is the underdog who beats the world champion fitness: Shandinella fails and has to leave the game, while Frank makes it to the final three.

The final three spent their final night in the mangrove, where Klaar, Mick & Ernestine spent so many tough days. The final challenge is a tough one: first they have to make fire, than they have to cut coconuts, they have to swim, they have to row a boat, they have to build another fire and finally, have to climb in the cage where the game started. It’s Frank who takes an early lead and never loses this lead: he climbs the cage as first one and wins the challenge. Behind him, Matthias and Marjolein battle each other. The person who finishes last has to leave the show. It is finally Marjolein who doesn’t win: she cannot make fire and is therefore eliminated.

Frank and Matthias made the final, where they have to face the jury, consisting of the twelve members who “made the merge”. However, the audience also gets to vote, so the person who gets the most votes cumulative wins the show. It is never a close match: it is really obvious who the jury and the viewers like the most. These are the results:

Ernestine = Frank
Mitchell = Frank
Frouke = Frank
Kelly = Frank
Peter = Frank
Mohamed = Frank
Darline = Frank
Mick = Frank
Klaar = Frank
Ronald = Matthias
Shandinella = Frank
Marjolein = Matthias

So Frank leads 10-2 and Matthias needs over 80% over the vote of the viewers. But he doesn’t get that. Frank also gets the majority of the audience vote (don’t know exactly how much, but it was quite a lot) and becomes the winner of Expeditie Robinson 2004!

Expeditie Robinson 4 (2003) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 1

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 2nd, 2009 by Art

This show was the start of a new “era” of ER, with a bit more extravagant candidates and with some changes in the game which would come back later.

First episode
At the first day of the show, both Björn and Fatima arrive at their island. They will both be leaders, which means that they will be immune for the first two tribal councils. Both build a shelter and try to make fire. At the second day, the other participants arrive. Fatima is surprised when she sees the men, but they click right away. The women have a bit more trouble with Björn, as they don’t think they need a male leader. However, after a few starting-problems, they work together and team Pantai wins the first elimination challenge (mostly due to Ryan of team Timo not being able to get past a balance beam).

Timo voted this way:
Simon = 5 (Fatima, Robin, Judge, Giovani, Ryan)
Ryan = 3 (Simon, Eric, Geert)
Fatima was immune.

Youngest and weakest member Simon, who was already struggling with homesickness, got an unexpected boot.

Second episode
There are more and more problems in team Pantai, because Esther can’t stand leader Björn and wants him to leave as soon as possible. Some women agree with Esther, others are quite happy with Björn. At the men’s team there are trouble because Ryan is angry he got so many votes against. The elimination challenge is lost by team Pantai, to the delight of Björn because he wants Esther to leave the game. Unfortunately for him, Marlieke felt really weak and asked her teammates to vote her out. This was the results of the voting:

Marlieke = 7 (Eva, Esther, Ilona, Franca, Karen, Jutta)
Esther = 1 (Björn)
Jutta = 1 (Marlieke)
Björn had immunity.

Again, the weakest person with homesickness leaves the show, this time Marlieke.

Third episode
More and more trouble at Pantai, because the women do nothing but sleep and let Björn do all the work. He tries to have a conversation about this, but gets shut down by Esther. Both leaders get mail: they have to evaluate their leadership and decide whether they think they are capable enough to be leader for another two tribal council rounds (and thus receive immunity for two more rounds). Both Fatima and Björn think they are. The men are happy with Fatima’s decision, the women don’t agree with Björn’s. Björn and Jutta win the reward challenge together and receive a meal, cooked by the losers of the challenge: Fatima and Robin. During the meal Pansai grow closer. However, at the immunity challenge (where teams have to eat gross things), matters get worse when Ilona cannot eat a worm and therefore lose the challenge. Esther blames Björn because she thinks he pressured Ilona too much. However, Björn still cannot be voted out, so we get a tribal council with interesting results:

Esther = 2 (Björn, Karen)
Eva = 1 (Jutta)
Ilona = 1 (Eva)
Franca = 1 (Ilona)
Jutta = 1 (Franca)
Karen = 1 (Esther)

Esther knew she was gonna be voted out and asked the other women to all vote for each other, so the blame of her elimination fully felt on Björn.

Fourth episode
There is a tribal switch. Fatima and Björn both go to another island to get to know the other teams. The women’s team are really happy with this, especially Ilona and Karen, who both hate Björn. The men are not happy to lose Fatima, especially Giovani is grumpy about this. After meeting the other teams, both Fatima and Björn have to make a ranking with whom of the teams they see as the strongest competitors. Björn puts Giovani first and Judge last, Fatima puts Jutta first and Karen last. Both the first and last of the list join the leader in their old teams. So these are the new teams:

Pantai = Björn, Eva, Ilona, Franca, Judge, Giovani
Timo = Fatima, Eric, Robin, Geert, Ryan, Karen, Jutta

After the switch, both teams get to know each other, except for Fatima. She feels ill and doesn’t socialize with the others. After a check-up with the medical team it is decided that Fatima has to leave the game, to the tears of the other participants. However, there still is an immunity challenge which is lost by Timo. They vote this way:

Eric = 4 (Ryan, Robin, Karen, Jutta)
Ryan = 1 (Geert)
Jutta = 1 (Eric)

But because Fatima left the game, Eric doesn’t have to leave. He does get a “black vote” for the next tribal council. At the end of the episode, we get to see how Fatima visits the hospital, where she gets the news that the reason for her having to leave the game is because she is four months pregnant! We get to see how she gets a sonography (for pictures, see: http://www.expeditierobinson.net/index.php?p=er4-aflevering04)

Fifth episode
Again, the leaders have to fight for their position. Because Fatima is gone, team Timo have to decide among themselves who is the new leader. Due to a strong speech by Robin, Geert is chosen as the new leader. Ryan was his only opponent, but the team chose Geert. In Pantai, Giovani decides to challenge Björn. Both take part in a physical challenge and the winner will be the new leader. It’s Björn who wins the challenge, stays the leader and gets immunity again. At the immunity challenge, team Pantai have some trouble. It’s a swimming challenge and Judge is weak in this, so the team wants him to sit out. However, he refuses to do, so Björn sits out. The team loses the challenge because of Judge, which makes Giovani really angry.

Nevertheless, later he, Björn and Judge decide to make an alliance because they are sure the women have an alliance as well. The voting goes as this:

Judge = 3 (Eva, Ilona, Franca)
Eva = 3 (Björn, Judge, Giovani)

As the leader, Björn has to decide who leaves. He chooses Eva, because he thinks she is not strong enough for the individual part of the game.

Expeditie Robinson 4 (2003) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 2

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 2nd, 2009 by Art

Sixth episode
Team Timo have trouble because Eric feels really sick. He has been waiting to be voted out for days, but because their team won the immunity challenge, this didn’t happen. When the team again catches no food the next day, Eric decides to leave the game. The individual challenge is a challenge of the leaders. Björn wins and gets a good meal with two people of his choosing. Björn chooses Giovani and Franca, which upsets Judge (who is not chosen because he always has double meals because he says he needs more energy than the other people do). Björn tries to make an alliance for the individual part of the game, when he doesn’t have immunity no more. At Timo, Robin also has trouble with the toughness of the game: he gets hallucinations and thinks there are gnomes on the island. Their team loses the challenge and votes this way:

Robin = 2 (Geert, Ryan)
Jutta = 1 (Karen)
Karen = 1 (Jutta)
Ryan = 1 (Robin)

Geert and Ryan, two former enemies, make an alliance and vote for the third men. However, Robin doesn’t have to leave because Eric is already gone. He does get a black vote for the next tribal council.

Seventh episode
Team Timo and team Pansai merge in team Kelapa. There is a big feast and all people enjoy this, except for Björn who goes to bed early. The next day the new team builds a shelter, except for Karen and Ilona, who make their own little shelter because they refuse to sleep at the place where Björn sleeps. Giovani becomes the team cook and doesn’t want former Pansai to have extra food, because he wants to ration the food (but later reveals he wanted to keep them weak). The first individual immunity challenge is won by Ryan. Back at camp, Björn works his ass of to show the team he deserves to stay on the island. This disgusts Karen and Ilona, who still haven’t done anything around camp. The voting goes this way:

Karen = 6 (Björn, Geert, Giovani, Judge, Jutta, Ryan)
Björn = 3 (Franca, Ilona, Karen)
Jutta = 1 (Robin)
Robin = 1 (extra vote)

Karen is completely shocked when she is voted out, just like Franca and Ilona. She can hardly speak when she does her goodbye-interview. This changes when the host give her a dilemma: she can go to Devils Island, where she will battle with the other candidates who get voted out and one of them will make the final. She decides to accept this offer.

Eighth episode
Karen arrives at devils island (Gual), where she gets no tools and only a very limited amount of food. She has it very difficult at the island, because she didn’t bring any of her things with her to tribal council yesterday because she was 100% sure she would stay. At Kelapa, Ilona still refuses to sleep with the others and hates Björn even more because she blames him for the elimination of her best friend. Giovani wins the reward challenge and shares his price with Judge. The others celebrate Franca’s birthday, but she is unlucky when she steps on a sea urchin while setting out a fishing net. During this, Giovani and Geert have a confrontation because both want to take the lead. The immunity challenge is won by Giovani, again. This upsets Geert, who notices that Giovani is more popular than he is. He knows he cannot become the leader and asks his team to vote him out. The voting goes this way:

Geert = 7 (Björn, Franca, Judge, Giovani, Robin, Jutta, Ryan)
Björn = 1 (Ilona)
Judge = 1 (Geert)

Geert also gets the offer to go to Devils Island and battle with Karen. Even though he asked to be voted out, he wants to take this challenge.

Ninth tribal council
Geert arrives at Devils Island, where a surprised Karen meets him. When she hears Geert asked to be voted out she gets really angry. If he had asked this a few days earlier, she would still be in the game. Geert and Karen battle in a endurance challenge and Geert wins, so Karen leaves the show in tears.

At Kelapa Björn tries to talk with Ilona and resolve their problems, but Ilona refuses to talk with him and later complains to the others about this. Later, Jutta ends an agreement she made with Björn that she would never vote for him. Robin wins the reward challenge and chooses as price something for the whole team. A guy with a monkey visits the island and the monkey grabs 18 bananas from a tree. The next day, Ryan sees Giovani eating a banana, even if the team agreed not to eat the bananas yet. He confronts Giovani and this results in quite a big fight. The immunity challenge is won by Robin and the team votes this way:

Ryan = 4 (Björn, Judge, Giovani, Robin)
Björn = 4 (Ilona, Franca, Jutta, Ryan)

Because of the four previous votes against, Björn has to leave the island, but he also gets the offer to go to Gual and accepts this offer with a big smile on the face.

Expeditie Robinson 4 (2003) – Belgium/Netherlands – Part 3

Posted in Arthur's Blog, Survivor, Survivor 1-10 Belg-Neth on January 2nd, 2009 by Art

Tenth tribal council
Björn arrives at Gual, where Geert has a strange offer for him. Geert really enjoyed being on Devils Island and thinks all eliminated people deserve to be stay on the island. So he is ready to give up his place on Gual if Björn agrees to also give up his place when the next eliminated person arrives. Björn says he will do this and Geert leaves without a battle. Björn loves his time on the island: he runs around naked half of the time, enjoys the nature, sings songs and has the time of his life while living at an remote island without any other people around.

At Kelapa, the men still have trouble with Ryan. Ryan doesn’t like the way chef-cook Giovani cooks the food. At the reward challenge, the participants have to break plates with names of the other contestants. Ryan is the first one eliminated because the other men break all his plates. Giovani wins the reward and gets a visit from a loved one, which he shares with Franca for tactical reasons, so also a loved one of Franca visits the island. The next night things get out of hand when Ryan and Giovani have a fight about the missing bananas. This isn’t taped, but the next day, Ilona and Ryan, state that Giovani almost attacked Ryan with a knife. The women are really disappointed in Giovani and a split happens on the island. Because the three men are in the minority, they try to get Jutta and Ilona on their side, but both refuse. Giovani saves himself when he wins immunity again. The voting goes this way:

Ryan = 4 (France, Judge, Giovani, Ryan)
Judge = 3 (Ilona, Jutta, Ryan)

To the surprise of some, Franca decides to join the men and vote for Ryan (probably as a thank-you to Giovani for bringing her family to the island). Ryan leaves Kelapa, but goes to Gual.

Eleventh tribal council
At Gual, Björn is very disappointed to see Ryan. He tells him a few lies about the island: that it is really boring, there is hardly any food, etc. He does this because he hopes Ryan doesn’t want to stay on the island after these stories. Unfortunately for him, Ryan still wants to fight and the two men battle. Ryan wins, so the adventure is finally over for Björn.

At Kelapa, things get more silent. Giovani apologizes for the way he reacted the other night and the men and women make up. At the reward challenge, all the people win money with which they can buy food at an auction. After some blah blah, the immunity challenge takes place. This is won by Robin. After the challenge, the women want to join together and vote out Giovani because they notice he is always eating from the pan when he was cooking. The men want to vote for Franca because they think she is the strongest person on the island: she is really popular with everybody who is voted out. Right before the voting there is probably the most blatant influence of the production in the history of the show. For the first and only time, the winner of immunity gets the offer to give up immunity so he can cast another vote. Robin accepts this offer, because if he wouldn’t, Judge would receive three votes from the women and be eliminated due to previous votes. Now the voting goes like this:

Franca = 4 (Robin 1, Robin 2, Ryan, Judge)
Judge = 3 (Franca, Ilona, Jutta)

So the more boring, but really popular on the island Franca has to leave and the more exciting men get an advantage.

Twelfth tribal council
At Gual, Ryan is shocked when he sees Franca is voted out, he thought she would win. Both battle to stay on the island, a challenge who is won by Ryan, so Franca has to leave the game for real now.

At Kelapa, Jutta and Ilona are disappointed with the elimination of Franca and because Giovani still eats from the pan. They confront him, but he denies he is stealing food. Jutta forgives him, but Ilona doesn’t believe him. Later, Kelapa finds a sea-turtle in the fishing net. The turtle is really weak and Judge hopes the animal will die so they can eat him. The others help the turtle recover, so the animal survives. The reward challenge is won by Robin, who gets to meet a member of the jury to talk to him/her. This is Björn, who wants to know why Franca got the boot while everybody liked her, over Judge who nobody likes. Robin tells him it was a strategic decision, which Björn understands. After the meeting, Robin receives his personal item: a Zorro costume, so the next day he walks around dressed like Zorro. The immunity challenge is won by Robin as well. After the challenge, Ilona tries to tell Robin and Judge that they need to vote out Giovani, because he is the strongest candidate for the final. The voting goes this way:

Ilona = 3 (Judge, Giovani, Robin)
Judge = 2 (Ilona, Jutta)

The men see Ilona as a stronger person than Jutta, so they vote her out. But Ilona also gets the offer to go to Gual, where she will battle Ryan for a place in the final.

Final
Ryan and Ilona battle each other at Gual. It’s a tough battle and the longest endurance of all so far, but at the end it is Ilona who wins and will return in the game right after she got voted out.

While the people at Kelapa prepare for the elimination challenge, Ilona returns and will take part. However, this can be a quick return because the two people who finish last in the elimination challenge (which is endurance), will be eliminated right away. After 1,5 hour it is Robin who loses first. 15 minutes later, the second person gets eliminated, which is Giovani. The two strongest and most popular men leave due to this game, which must have really upset the production. Judge is the third person to fall, so both women battle each other. Finally, Ilona falls which means Jutta wins and is the first finalist. After this, an angry Robin and Giovani really leave the island. Next, Ilona and Judge battle each other for the final spot in the final. It’s a pretty one-sided match because Judge dominates and wins. So Ilona leaves the game once again. That night, Jutta and Judge face each other and the jury, which consists of all people who made the merge (eight). After some tough questions, this is the voting:

Karen = Judge
Geert = Jutta
Björn = Jutta
Ryan = Jutta
Franca = Jutta
Robin = Judge
Giovani = Judge
Ilona = Judge

Especially the vote of Ilona is surprising, as she never got along with Judge. There were some rumours that Ilona was pushed into voting for Judge and to cause a tie. Because of the tie, there were two different solutions. The Dutch broadcast let the audience vote for who they thought should be the winner, while the Belgian broadcast asked the earlier eliminated candidates to vote for who should win. So it was possible that both countries would have a different winner and there would be two winners of the game. The Dutch voted as follows:

Jutta = 66%
Judge = 34%

The former eliminated candidates voted as a whole also for Jutta (individual votes are not known). This means Jutta has won Expeditie Robinson 2003!
